China state TV airing 50-part Bruce Lee biography
BEIJING (AP) - China's state broadcaster is airing a 50-part prime-time TV series on Bruce Lee -- the country's first formal introduction to the late kung fu icon and nationalist hero.
China was largely a closed country during Lee's prime years. The actor died in 1973 in Hong Kong from swelling of the brain.
The 50 million yuan (US$7.3 million) CCTV series will start airing on Sunday at 8 p.m.
Producer Yu Shengli said in an interview with the Associated Press Lee held an esteemed position in the eyes of Chinese people.
