Kurt Angle Pulls Out of Olympic Trials, Promotes Upcoming TNA Event

Kurt Angle turned a lot of heads with an interview he conducted this week. The first thing he did was proclaim that he was pulling out of the Olympic wrestling trials. Then he made a lot of WWE fan boys mad when he made a completely logical statement.
Angle said that his cage match with Jeff Hardy at the TNA Lockdown pay per view on April 15, 2012 has the chance to be just as good as the Triple H and Undertaker match from Wrestlemania XXVIII. While there are a lot of WWE fans that take that as sacrilegious, it is possible.
Hardy and Angle are both younger, and while it won't have the same background and meaning, there is no reason that it can't be just as good, or probably better, than the match at the big WWE event. Sure, there is no way that the match between Angle and Hardy will end up as memorable but that isn't what Angle was saying.
As for him pulling out of the Olympic trials, it is simply because he hurt his hamstring when training. He is afraid it is a tear and that would take a month to rehab. With the trials three weeks away, it won't be possible for him to make that deadline.
Of course, there are a lot of people who look at professional wrestling as being fake and figure this is just an excuse to get out, but I see no reason to doubt his word. It was exciting to see a former gold medal winner trying to go back to at least represent his country, even if just as an alternate.
Way before Angle became a professional wrestler, he was a two-time National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I champion. Following that, he won a gold medal in the 1995 World Wrestling Championships and then won the gold medal in the 1996 Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta, Georgia. When the WWE advertised him as the sport's first Olympic Gold Medalist, they weren't kidding.
It is sad he won't get his chance to represent his country again but it is nice to see that he is continuing his career as a professional wrestler, although I wonder how good he can be in this cage match with an injured hamstring.
