Fighter’s Convention: Preview of the NAMMAE

Sid Needelman Reporting...

Well its that time of year again, people have budgets to spend on their loved ones, and it so happens that this year more loved ones than ever love MMA.

This weekend at Anaheim Convention Center, the largest convention celebrating the sport will take over the Anaheim California area. The North American Mixed Martial Arts Expo or as most call it, the NAMMAE, will be held at the Center December 1st and 2nd, 2007 in.

Headlining the event is the (possibly no longer) Heavyweight Champion, Randy “The Natural” Couture. His former opponent, Tito “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy” Ortiz, will also be on hand at his Punishment Athletics booth. He will be joined by Kendall Grove on Saturday 2pm to 5pm. While Tito is there to sign autographs and sell shirts, Randy again “one-ups” him by leading a seminar for those who want to learn a few new moves to practice on your little cousin during the holidays.

Eddie Bravo will also be doing a seminar. He is a funny guy, known for his humor and lack of ability to stay away from certain types of recreational activities.

But the event is not all about the stars, its also about the business as well. Small companies will be in attendance this weekend. While One Shot Fightwear may not be as popular as Tapout who will also be in attendance, I would suggest checking out the “United We Stand” shirt. For those who cannot wait until the show to see the thoughtful shirt, check it out at http://www.oneshotathletics.com

Another company, Heavy Hitters, will also be in attendance. They serve to support fighting teams with more than just apparel. They sell training shorts, pads and gloves. For those who just love to watch MMA and not participate, check out their calendar.

For those who do participate, they can help themselves to a test by entering into the No Limits & USA Wrestling sanctioned event, the U.S. Grappling Championships. For those who are looking for more information on that, head over to http://www.usgrappling.org.

The IFL is also going to be supporting the convention that is support the sport they represent. The IFL is in the midst of their Grand Prix, so if at any time it would be interesting to pick the brains of the captains or teammates, now is a great time. For instance, Marco Ruas will be at the NAMMAE representing his team and the company.

Other fighters scheduled to be there to meet the fans and potential sponsors, Jason “Mayhem” Miller, Karo Parisian, Matt Lindland, Tyson Griffin, Dan Henderson, Rico Rodriguez, Mighty Mo, Jake Shields, Nick Diaz, Gilbert Melendez and “Razor” Rob McCullough.

Other noteworthy things to try to include in your weekend at the NAMMAE is a tentatively scheduled clinic with Houston Alexander on Sunday, and there will be a ring girl contest as well. For those who can attend, enjoy yourself and support the sport.

****Let me know if anyone will be going to this os Saturday****
What do you expect? The comedian is dead.
