UFC Veteran Sam Hoger Returns to Action Sept. 19th at WCF 4 in Boston
Boston, Mass. August 12, 2008 - Sam "The Alaskan Assassin" Hoger, star of The Ultimate Fighter reality show, returns to Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) action after more than 16 months away from the sport. Hoger, a former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Light Heavyweight contender, is poised to return to action on September 19th at World Championship Fighting 4 being held in Wilmington, Massachusetts. Information for the event can be found at http://www.WCFighting.com.
Hoger first rose to fame during his appearance on Spike TV's popular reality series The Ultimate Fighter. Competing in the Light Heavyweight division, Hoger advanced to the semi-finals of the show where he was eliminated by the eventual winner of the show and current Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Light Heavyweight Champion Forrest Griffin.
For all the headlines Hoger made throughout the show, he was able to put the negative hype aside when he faced a much more experienced Bobby Southworth on the live finale of The Ultimate Fighter. Having been considered the best Light Heavyweight at the beginning of the show by most MMA experts, Southworth was a heavy favorite heading into the fight. Hoger surprised fans and experts alike with a game plan that frustrated his opponent and led Hoger to a stunning victory over the heavily favored Southworth.
Since Hoger's win over Southworth, he has gone on to fight such notable fighters as UFC fighters Stephan Bonner, Rashad Evans, Lyoto Machida and most recently Vernon White. After taking some time off to open his own MMA academy, Miletich Fighting Systems Houston, Hoger looks to return to Mixed Martial Arts in a big way by making his presence known in the World Championship Fighting organization's heavyweight division. "I can't wait to get back in the ring! It's been a long time so I just want to get back out there and show everyone what I can do." Regarding his upcoming fight Hoger said, "I'm excited about fighting for World Championship Fighting! They're one of the biggest shows on the East Coast. I'm not looking past my opponent [Braden Bice], but I plan on making big waves in the MMA world again and this will be my first step."
The action happens live September 19th at the Aleppo Shriners Auditorium in Wilmington, Massachusetts. For more information visit http://www.WCFighting.com
