M-1 Challenge Set To Rock Kansas City on October 29th
Titan Entertainment and M-1 Global are proud to announce the return of professional Mixed Martial Arts to Kansas City, Missouri as HDNet and Affliction present the “M-1 Challenge.” After successful events in Holland, Russia, Spain, Korea, and England the Affliction M-1 Challenge will finally take place in the USA. On October 29th 2008, the M-1 Challenge will come to Kansas City, Missouri for the 8th installment of this new fight series. Harrah’s Casino VooDoo lounge will be the launch pad for this explosive event. Doors will open at 6 p.m. with the first bout starting at 8:00 p.m.
The M-1 Challenge is an international team competition for young talented upcoming fighters to gain experience and be given the opportunity to fight internationally. Teams consist of 5 members, one in each weight division. Every region/country will bring forward a team that will compete against other teams in an international competition that will last throughout 2008 with a grand finale at the end of the year. Participating teams for this USA installment of the Affliction M-1 Challenge will be Japan, Spain, Korea and France. This card also features two big super bouts featuring local MMA sensation Bobby Voelker and Affliction and UFC standout Mike Whitehead.
Bobby Voelker, 16-4, will look to put his lofty record on the line as he steps up in competition against Pride Fighting Championship veteran Amir Rahnavardi, 10-9, in a bout that he hopes will propel him to major bouts within M-1 and the UFC. “We are extremely excited to have Bobby Voelker fight an opponent like this," said Titan Entertainment President, Joe Kelly. "There is a time in every fighter’s career that he has to put everything on the line and make a statement. This is a chance for Bobby to finally jump from a prospect to contender. I believe Bobby has the ability to fight against the best fighters in the world and this fight will test that prediction.”
UFC and Affliction veteran Mike Whitehead, 23-7, will headline the show in the main event super bout. Whitehead is a 3 time All American Wrestler from the University of Missouri. Whitehead first jumped onto the MMA scene by appearing on the Spike TV reality series "The Ultimate Fighter", Whitehead has parlayed that notoriety into MMA success. With wins over some big names in the heavyweight division, Whitehead has shown himself to be an up-and-coming star in MMA. “Mike Whitehead has come home to Missouri to fight in the M-1 Challenge," said Kelly. "This is an exciting opportunity for the fight fans here to not only see a true MMA superstar like Mike Whitehead in action but also all of this amazing international talent in one place.”
