ROAD FC - KOREA 003 - Recap and Results
Brazil goes 2-1 against Korea at ROAD FC - KOREA 003: "Korea versus Brazil" in front of a sold-out crowd in Seoul, South Korea. Main Event fighter Kwon A-Sol finishes Giovanni Diniz by submission, Thiago Silva submits Moon Jae-Hoon, and Bruno Miranda pounds out Kim Won-Gi.
ROAD FC - KOREA 3 RESULTS
On 6 April, 2014, ROAD FC's third monthly league event showcased three "Korea versus Brazil" matches. A thrilling night of competitive fights took place in front of a sold-out audience in the Grand Ballroom of The-K Hotel in Seoul, South Korea. Brazil went 2-1 against the hometown Koreans to top a card filled with finishes.
Kwon A-Sol entered his fight with Giovanni Diniz with a heavy penalty disadvantage because of missing his weight limit. Kwon had 2 points deducted per round which meant he could only win by finishing the fight - and he did so in spectacular fashion. Both fighters came out slow in the first round and were cautioned for it, but in the second and third rounds Kwon blasted Diniz with punches and pounding on the ground. Kwon had hurt Diniz so badly that when he went for the rear naked choke, Diniz could not defend and was choked unconscious.
Thiago Luis Silva and Moon Jae-Hoon put on a thrilling match from the opening bell. Silva was able to get back control in the first and Moon worked very hard to defend the chokes while he was being punched from behind. In the second round Moon began to demolish Silva's left leg with kicks, then he took him down and pounded him to within moments of a bloody finish. In the third, Silva knew he could not take any more of those kicks so he shot for a takedown and applied a successful arm triangle to Moon for a remarkable comeback win.
Bruno Miranda took on Kim Won-Gi in the first of the three Korea versus Brazil fights. After striking with each other, Miranda went for a standing guillotine and then Kim took the fight down for ground and pound. The barrage cost him, and Kim did not have much gas left in round two. Miranda took advantage of it by fiercely pounding on him until the referee called the finish.
In an active and technical women's Atomweight match, Ham Seo-Hee imposed a takedown and control game with Shino VanHoose. Ham showed why she is one of the top women's fighters in the world, with crisp striking and very good pressure and positions on the ground. VanHoose defended well from off her back and made some surprising submission attempts. 18-year old VanHoose had some shining moments, such as a throw and a slam from one of Ham's arm bar attempts, but it was Ham's dominance in all aspects that outpointed on the judges' scorecards.
The opening match between Ko Yong-Seok and Tsujikawa Ryohei began with furious striking exchanges which led to a clinching game against the cage. Then Tsujikawa forced Ko to the ground where he imposed his will through the entire round while looking to finish with submission attempts and pounding. Tsujikawa ended Ko's comeback story by arm bar with seconds left on the clock.
YOUNG GUNS 13
Kim Kyu-Hwa and Kim Jae-Kyung started off the Young Guns card with a back-and-forth battle in which Kyu-Hwa's grappling edged out Jae-Kyung's striking to earn the decision win. Son Gyu-Seok overpowered Yoon SungJun by taking him down, pounding on him, and finishing with a back choke. Kim Jong-Hyun and Lee Sung-Su waged an intelligent war in all aspects of the game, but it was Kim's creative quickness in securing an arm bar that got him the win by tap out.
Park Dae-Song and Yoo Tae-Woo battled to get the fight to the canvas, and Park's experience led him to it first, where he ground and pounded Yoo until the referee stepped in. Lee Hyung-Seok and Jo Byeong-Ok capped off Young Guns 13 with technical striking, until Jo threw Lee to the canvas. However, Lee was able to scramble and work around to take Jo's back where he got a rear naked choke that Jo was forced to tap to mere seconds from the bell.
