Re: CageFX Events & Information
Cage Fighting Xtreme returns to a renovated JunglePlex in Plymouth, MA on November 19, 2011 for another full slate of exciting mixed martial arts fights. The extensive card is scheduled to feature some of the best professional and amateur mixed martial arts fighters in the New England area.
“We’re thrilled to bring MMA fans the 18th installment of CageFX,” Said Promoter Linda Shields. “It doesn’t get easier with quantity, but quality always improves. I’m grateful to have so many awesome fights to cheer about.”
Fans will be treated to two incredible professional title fights pitting 145-pounders and current CFX Featherweight Champion Frank Sforza (South Shore Sportfighting) of Rockland, Massachusetts against Jeremy Ross (AFT) of Ludlow, MA; and 185-pounders Robby Roberts (Fight Factory MMA) of Orange, MA against Jason Dublin (Dublin Fight Factory) of Lynn, MA.
Dublin and Roberts battled earlier in their careers with Dublin coming away with the first-round TKO win in their initial contest back in June of 2009, which was part of a previous Rumble in the Jungle event (CFX 3). Roberts looks to avenge the loss and maintain his status as the current Cage Fighting Xtreme 185-pound Champion.
“This fight has a lot going on,” Roberts explains. “It’s a title fight and a rematch, and the defending champ is the one who lost the first fight. It's like Edgar versus Maynard if they were overweight and slower but could hit harder. It's gonna be a good one.”
During a recent interview on http://www.fightradio.info, Super Heavyweight Lee Beane (Wai Kru) of Bridgewater, Massachusetts promised that no matter what happens in his fight with Bobby Favors (Triple Threat MMA), “It’s gonna end in a violent fashion.” Favors is coming all the way to Plymouth from Fairport Harbor, Ohio for this fight.
The amateur competition will also be highlighted by two title tilts. The first one is at 170 pounds between North Easton, Massachusetts Native and Orthopedic Surgeon David Worman, fighting out of ABD in Easton, and Paul Nischo, fighting out of Tri-Force MMA in Pawtucket, RI.
“I can't wait for this fight. The opportunity to go up against a skilled, experienced fighter like Paul gives me a chance to put all of my hard work and training to the test,” an eager and confident Worman said about his shot at the title. “I plan on bringing a complete package to this fight and am prepared to go wherever it needs to be taken... on our feet or down to the ground. My intention is to fight for an early finish, but you know I'll be ready to take it as deep into the rounds as necessary. The fact that this is a title fight makes it even more exciting. Holding a title makes you the man on top, and that's where I always want to be. I can't wait to represent my school, America's Best Defense, and CageFX as the amateur welter weight champion.”
Worman’s opponent points to a favorite quote of his in describing what’s going through his mind before this fight. “You can have anything you want if you are willing to give up the belief that you can’t have it,” is a mantra Paul Nischo is a strong believer in.
“This title fight means everything to me,” Nischo explains. “To have the opportunity to fight for a belt and represent my team is something I always thought of, but I never imagined it happening so quickly in my amateur career. It’s kinda crazy. I plan on holding nothing back, leaving everything in the cage, and bringing that belt back to Rhode Island.”
Mike Drohan (Lakeville MMA) of Middleboro, Massachusetts also takes on Andrew Hughes (Team Irish) of Bangor, Maine for the 185-pound amateur title. Drohan is excited to be battling in his second amateur title fight. “I am very thankful for the opportunities CFX has offered me. My first amateur title felt amazing to get,” Drohan said. “This one would feel even better! I just hope Andrew is training as hard as me so we can put on an exciting and action packed fight.”
Dave Lachapple (SSSF) will face of in what promises to be a real war with Barrington Douse of AFT at 140 pounds as well. Among the amateur heavyweight contests will be Pat Walsh (Wai Kru) from Allston, Massachusetts facing James Chaplin (Pin2Win) of Phoenix, New York.
Rounding out the card, Fernando Perez (CCFA) of Plymouth, Massachusetts will square off with Lee Metcaf (SSSF) of Hanson, Massachusetts in a fight that has the potential to be fight of the night.
A full detailed fight card will be announced shortly.
Tickets for “Rumble in the Jungle” can be purchased by calling CageFX at 781.510.6000 or online at http://www.cagefx.com. Doors open 6:30 PM EST with the first bout scheduled for 7 PM sharp.
