XFC 23 Set for April 19 in Kentucky


The Kentucky Boxing and Wrestling Authority have granted John Prisco of Xtreme Fighting Championships his promoters license and the XFC is heading to Kentucky for the promotions first Pro show in the Bluegrass State and second nationally televised event of 2013. Today it was posted on the KBWA event calendar that the XFC will be rolling the production trucks into the Kentucky International Convention Center in Downtown, Louisville on April 19th.

After successful events in Florida, Tennessee, North Carolina, and Greece, the XFC has shown why they are a international powerhouse. XFC 19 sold out the Grady Cole Center in Charlotte, North Carolina and showcased some of the very best events that Tennessee has ever seen in just 2012. Last year, we saw the rise of Nick Newell, Scott Holtzman, and a growing list of elite athletes added to the roster of stars. Already announced in 2013 has been the signing of several "next generation" MMA & Wmma superstars and veteran'd fighters. Make no bones about it, the XFC is making a huge statement to remain solidified as one of the top promotions in the country.

XFC 23 will mark the expansion of women's MMA as John Prisco has already announced Stephanie Eggink will battle Angela Magana in the co-main event and newly signed Atomweight Angelica Chavez will make her XFC debut, marking this event as the first time multiple female bouts have been shown live on national television on AXStvfights.

"After thousands of requests from our fans, a great push from the local media on BluegrassMMA Radio & others, and a very good relationship that we've built over the years with some of the local promoters, it is time for us to return to the Bluegrass State. I can't thank our Kentucky fans enough that have been traveling in to Tennessee to see our shows. We've got a very large fan base in that region and I can see this becoming a permanent stop for the XFC. I am very excited for the April show. I know the fans are ready and we are too." said Prisco. The excitement will have time to build as the remainder of the fight card is rumored to be finalized in the next 3 weeks and is set to feature several of the XFC's current fighters, as well as bouts featuring the best fighters in the Kentucky region looking to earn their XFC contract. Eggink-Magana Set for Inaugural XFC Women's Strawweight Belt


Xtreme Fighting Championships will return to the state of Kentucky for the first time since 2008, for the promotion's next event XFC 23: Louisville Slugfest. Scheduled for Friday April 19, the AXStv broadcast will include the first ever XFC Strawweight WMMA title fight between former US Boxing team member Stephanie "Snowflake" Eggink and veteran Angela Magana.

The XFC has been promoting Women's MMA since 2007 and has featured at least one female bout on each of their events since. The Strawweight division became one of the most active groups in 2012, which led to XFC President John Prisco's decision to make the fight between Eggink and Magana a championship bout.

Eggink joined the XFC ranks in 2012, making her first appearance under the XFC banner in December taking on XFC vet Heather Clark. Eggink went the distance with Clark, earning a unanimous decision victory after three rounds that showcased all aspects of her game, from her boxing to her jiu-jitsu.

Magana signed with the XFC in early 2013 as the promotion planned to increase the number of women's bouts featured on their events. With an (11-5) record, Magana is the most experienced fighter amongst the athletes currently signed to the promotion and her few losses come from champions that include Jessica Aguilar, Jessica Eye, and Jessica Penne. Magana is much more experienced than Eggink, with nearly 6 years of pro fights under her belt and wins over the likes of Barb Honchack, Lynn Alverez, and Aguilar.

Following the decision to make the bout a championship match, XFC President John Prisco spoke with officials about the first Women's title fight in XFC history. "Following her performance against Clark, I thought that Eggink would be the best matchup for Magana. Eggink is experience beyond her years being a pro boxing vet and her jiu-jitsu training under a Royce Gracie black belt. Magana at the same time is one of the best fighters in the game, but hasn't been getting the respect she deserves in terms of her abilities," Prisco said. "We're talking about someone who has beaten some of the best fighters in and out of her weight class, and if you look at her losses, you're looking at a list of today's champions. I'm confident that these are two of the best fighters at 115 lbs. and whoever wins is going to be a great representative of the XFC."

Underwood, Ribeiro Take Feature Spot at XFC 23 on April 19


Xtreme Fighting Championships is returning to the state of Kentucky with a fully stacked lineup that is now scheduled to include recent Featherweight signee, Deivison "The Dragon" Ribeiro against challenger Zach "Thunderwood Underwood in the feature bout of the evening Live on AXStv. Ribeiro joins his teammate Sapo Santos, as the two Brazilians make their XFC debut on April 19th at XFC 23: Louisville Slugfest.

Ribeiro (23-8) has been fighting since 2005 mostly in his home country of Brazil, until recently moving to South Florida where he began working with American Top Team and Sapo Fight Team. At 23 years old, Ribeiro promises to be one of the most dominant fighters in the XFC Featherweight division for years to come. The Brazilian enters the cage in April following wins in 4 of his last 5 fights.

Zach Underwood (10-4) will be the underdog in the bout with Ribeiro, and will have to make up for the experience factor. Underwood is one of the top Featherweights in the region, following a career that started in the Lightweight division. One of the toughest fighters to be featured in the XFC, Underwood has only suffered 1KO loss in his young career and most of his wins, including his most recent over Bellator vet Chris Coggins are via decision.

With the Lightweight divisional ranks established, both Ribeiro and Underwood will have the opportunity to solidify their positions in the Featherweight division as the XFC looks to determine the top contenders at 145-pounds.

XFC President John Prisco finalized the bout with an official statement. "I'm excited to have signed Ribeiro, and to have lined him up for his first fight in the XFC. I have seen this guy in action and immediately after watching knew that he is one of the toughest, most impressive fighters I'd seen. I'm excited to have him fighting in the XFC, he'll be a great representative for our organization," Prisco proclaimed. "Underwood is a really tough guy, he's going to bring the fight to Ribeiro, and he'll bring it for three rounds. He hasn't finished many fights, but he hasn't been finished often either. If he can take Ribeiro to the judges he's got a chance at earning a huge win!"

Julio Gallegos Gets Curtain Call at XFC 23 on April 19


Xtreme Fighting Championships next nationally televised event Live on AXStv will be April 19 for XFC 23: Louisville Slugfest and included in the event is a middleweight bout between Dominique Steele and XFC favorite Gerardo Julio Gallegos. Gallegos returns to the XFC cage for the first time in over a year, looking to bring the fans in his home state of Kentucky and those watching on AXStv yet another exciting fight.

Gallegos brings a pro record of (6-3) into the bout, following two consecutive wins. Both of his most recent wins are by way of submission in the first round, giving Gallegos four career first round finishes, and 4 career submission wins.

Fighting out of Lexington, Kentucky, Gallegos has been competing in the XFC since 2009 when he took his second pro fight against Robert Turner. Turner was a strong favorite, with eight pro fights to his name, but that didn't keep Gallegos from bringing it to Floridian when the two met at XFC 8. Gallegos submitted Turner in the second round via guillotine. That would be the first of three consecutive wins for Gallegos, including another submission win over Hayder Hassan at XFC 9, followed by one of the quickest KO's in XFC history (:34 seconds) against TUF vet Shane Primm.

Following back-to-back losses from Mike Bernhard and Amaechi Oselukwue at XFC 11 & 16, Gallegos went back to the regional scene to tune his skill set and gain some additional experience. In December, he worked his way back into the win column with a knee-bar submission, and then followed that performance with another submission victory in January. With two consecutive first round wins, XFC President John Prisco saw it was time for Gallegos to return the national spotlight and Julio will get another challenging opponent in his return to AXStv, as he takes on Dominique Steele (7-3).

Julio Gallegos gets the curtain call in his home state of Kentucky, as the XFC returns to the Bluegrass state for the first time since 2008; when the promotion set the state attendance record for MMA events. XFC 23 promises to be another great event with a stacked line up that will also include a main event between Shamar Bailey vs Luis Santos, who hold combined records of over 75+ Pro MMA Fights.
