Next Era of Mixed Martial Arts Ushered In by New Fight Company in Historic Venue

Image

*Des Moines, IA- May 20, 2009-* MaxFights, the newly formed professional
mixed martial arts (MMA) fight promotion company, announced its first event
as well as details on the company today. MaxFights-Des Moines, the
registered company name, has organized a wealth of partners, collaborators,
and contributors representing much of the rich history of MMA and live event
promotion in Central Iowa.

MaxFights primary partners, Scott Casber and Chris Arns, were owners in two
previous MMA companies, and are involved in other synergistic entities in
sports promotion, including broadcasting and talent management. In forming
MaxFights, new investors in concert promotion and consumer advertising are
included as well.

MaxFights guiding philosophy is one of inclusiveness, embracing all
experienced and worthy fighters, regardless of associations or affiliations.
MaxFights first event on Friday, June 19 features fighters from a wealth of
organizations including the UFC, M1, IFL, and other fight promotions in Iowa
and the Midwest. MaxFights staff, officials, announcers, and ring girls are
well known here and represent some of the best talent and greatest
experience in those categories.

The June 19 fight card was assembled by MaxFights Match Maker, and Iowa MMA
mainstay, Brian Green. Among ten total bouts, one co-main event matches UFC
vets James Giboo against Jason Gilliam, in only the third time in Iowa where
two UFC warriors have faced each other. The remaining co-main event pits M1
vet Steve Carl against IFL vet and fan favorite, Victor Moreno. Carl
recently returned with a victory in Belarus, Bulgaria where M1 Team North
America swept the event with five unanimous wins. Other bouts deliver
instantly recognized names including a rematch between Jeff Carstens and
Paul Bird. Bird was seen on Spike TV’s latest season of The Ultimate Fighter
and Carstens just competed in the second ever sanctioned event in
Pennsylvania (Philadelphia). Carstens intends to avenge his previous loss to
Bird. Other featured bouts include Chuck Parmelee vs. Demi Deeds, Jason
Medina vs. Red Worthington, Chris Perez-Van Dam vs. Cory Simpson, and Timmy
Gorman vs. Cody Van Cleveren.

Based on an exclusive agreement with the historic Val Air Ballroom,
MaxFights supplies a warm and inviting home for MMA fans. Max fights also
arranged a co-promotion with a top amateur association for monthly events at
the Val Air, thus providing a proving ground and launch pad for fighter to
build their experience, working toward the pro ranks. Other initial
co-promotional partners include the Iowa Barnstormers and Budweiser among
many others. The official weigh-in event and the event after party will be
held at Komodo Club, located at 214 3rd Street in downtown Des Moines.

“The collective experience of the team we’ve assembled includes nearly every
component, dynamic, and personality related to MMA in Central Iowa,”
described MaxFights owner/partner Scott Casber. “Our roots can be traced as
far back as possible. Whether it was the early amateur days here, any venue
you can name, celebrities attending local events, or many of the fighters
that have gone on to national and international careers, somehow we’ve been
involved. Our team gained valuable experience and built important
relationships, and we’re thrilled to bring everything together in one place
and at the same time,” confirmed Casber.

MaxFights will produce a minimum of eight events at the Val Air in the next
twelve months. Tickets for the June 19 event are on sales now and can be
purchased at the Val Air box office, on-line at http://www.maxfightsdm.com,
or by calling 515-223-6152. Complete detail on MaxFights can be found at

MaxFightsDM Brings First Full Pro MMA Event to Des Moines

Postby Keithlewis » Sat Aug 01, 2009 12:30 am

Title Belt Fight, a Heralded U.S. Olympic Wrestler, and the Return of a Champion, Set the Stage for Des Moines' First All Pro MMA Event

Image

Des Moines, IA- July 31, 2009- MaxFightsDM, Des Moines’ newest and most exciting professional mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion, returns to the historic Val Air Ballroom with its second event on Friday, August 28. MaxFightsDM Ballroom Brawl features ten professional bouts, including three of particular note.

The main event will award MaxFightsDM’s first title belt, when Demi Deeds meets Jason Gilliam (welterweight). Both fighters were victorious in MaxfightsDM first event on June 19, when UFC vet Gilliam defeated fellow UFC vet James Giboo. Deeds defeated Chuck Parmelee, and picked up the Polanti Watches’ “Fighter of the Night Award”. Upon his win in June, Gilliam immediately declared his intent to return to Des Moines in his quest for the belt. Deeds, indisputably the local favorite, was also victorious in a recent main event of another Iowa fight promotion, and is certain to have throngs of fans in the stands.

The co-main event features 2008 U.S. Olympian, two-time NCAA wrestling champion, and two-time Hodge Trophy winner, Ben Askren, against the very tenured and heavy handed Matt Delanoit. While Delanoit’s ground game is stellar, the challenge of competing on the mat is apparent. Delanoit, based in Omaha, is a seasoned MMA veteran, with a long and decidedly winning record. Delanoit is preparing for this fight by training with renowned coach Joe Baudler, and with several elite fighters including UFC vets Jason Brilz and Ryan Jensen, as well as Bellator fighters Jake Ellenberger and Alonzo
Martinez. Askren was described by the MMA journal, *Five Ounces of Pain*, as “unquestionably one of the most phenomenal collegiate athletes in the history of American wrestling.” His MMA record includes only two fights, albeit definitive wins (one by knockout, one by submission). This match-up illustrates MaxFightDM’s commitment to taking MMA in Iowa to new heights.

The opening bout of the evening welcomes the return of Brian “SMOKIN” Green to the cage. A former champion and belt holder in Iowa, Green received arthroscopic surgery following his last fight in January, where he defeated Jason Louke via an arm bar, even with severely limited mobility. During his recovery process, Green has remained fully immersed in the MMA lifestyle, through his amateur promotion with Antony Porcelli (Des Moines MMA Fight Night), and as a match maker, official, and fighter manager. An announcement of an opponent will be made soon. Fans need to show up early, as this bout kicks things off promptly at 7:30 PM.

Ballroom Brawl is the first MMA event in Iowa where all bouts are professional fighters. “There are so many great opportunities for amateur fighters to work themselves up the ranks to pro, and we’re thrilled to present a showcase for those fighters,” commented MaxFightsDM partner, Scott Casber. Other featured fights include Jaxson Mason vs. Abel Trujillo, and a battle of the big boys, as Johnny Orr faces Jordan Wall in the heavyweight
division. Additionally, MaxFightsDM will provide cash awards to fighters for “Knockout of the Night”, “Submission of the Night”, and “Fight of the Night”, assuring added motivation for all fighters.

Doors open at 6:30 PM. Fights begin promptly at 7:30 PM. Tickets for the event start at $25 and can be purchased at the Val Air Box Office, and through http://www.ticketmaster.com. VIP tables can be purchased by calling (515) 274-0849.

Komodo Club, at 214 3rd Street, Des Moines, sponsors the official weigh-in event on Thursday, August 27 at 7PM, and the official after-party immediately following Ballroom Brawl.

Ballroom Brawl presenter, Max Muscle, along with MaxFightsDM, is working in conjunction with the Blood Center of Iowa on a blood drive to be held at Max Muscle in Clive, at 1300 NW 100th Street, on Wednesday, August 26. All donors will be entered into a raffle to win free tickets to the event. Max Muscle will offer significant product discounts to donors during the drive.

MaxFightsDM To Name New Lightweight Champion

MaxFightsDM Places Local Favorite Ted Worthington in Battle with WEC and Tapout Fighter Rob Roy for the Lightweight Title. Fight Phenom Emily Klinefelter Featured in Des Moines’s First Female Professional MMA Bout in Three Years

Image

Des Moines, IA- October 14, 2009-* MaxFightsDM returns to the Val Air Ballroom with Ballroom Brawl III on Friday, November 13 with a fight card rich in local, national, and international talent. The ten bout event is stacked with a diverse mix of fights and fighters, including recognized TV personalities and one of women’s boxing most decorated combatants.

The evening’s main event will determine the winner of MaxFightsDM’s Lightweight belt. Ted Worthington, a top local favorite, increasingly seen on the national front, stands and faces Wisconsin’s Rob Roy. Worthington won the Polanti Watches Fighter of the Night Award at the previous Ballroom Brawl event when he defeated Abel Trujillo with an arm bar in the final moments of the first round. Worthington had taken the fight on 24 hours notice. Worthington also secured a win over Jason Medina in the first MaxFightsDM event. Worthington, continually seeking good fight opportunities, quickly went on to defeat Darren Elkins in 13 seconds at the Duneland 6 event in Indiana. Rob Roy is one of MMA’s more colorful figures and is known nearly as much for his starring role in a Tapout TV episode as for his impressive fighting skills and record. Rob Roy has fought in numerous promotions across the country, and is best known for his WEC bouts, against Charlie Kohler, and MMA icon and WEC World Champion Jamie Varner.

Two other titan warriors will clash when IFL veteran Victor “Superman” Moreno meets John Cronk, owner of three world kickboxing titles. Moreno has built a solid reputation as a fighting workhorse while amassing considerable wins over well known and impressive opponents. Moreno was specific in his desire for a solid stand-up style opponent, and it goes without question that MaxFightsDM delivered. Cronk’s MMA experience, in addition to his kickboxing success, also runs deep and makes him a formidable opponent. Cronk, based in Sioux City, originally fought from Denver, logging multiple King of the Cage events, and well as being featured in Jeremy Horn’s Elite Fight Night promotion. Cronk’s best known opponents include Diego Sanchez, Matt Hughes, and Shonie Carter.

As interest in women’s MMA is increasingly pushed to new heights, MaxFightsDM fans will be able to witness Des Moines’s first women’s professional MMA bout in three years, and one that is clearly worth waiting for. Boxer, and MMA fighter, Emily Klinefelter faces Brittany Dale in the 130 pound class. Klinefelter’s boxing awards and numerous accolades include 13 national titles as well as two Gold Medals from the Pan Am Games in Brazil. She has fought all over the world and owns a 5-0 MMA record, and 6-0 pro boxing record. Her opponent (Brittany Dale) has directed the majority of her training regimen to boxing in preparation for this fight. Brittany’s brother, Willie Dale, is a member of the Miletich Fighting Systems camp, an accomplished wrestler, and is working with her on ground and submission techniques. Willie Dale is also included on the Ballroom Brawl III fight card as he faces Matt Dominguez.

Other key fights include Tim Gorman vs. Jared Downs. Gorman is clearly on his way up, but will need to get past Down to get to the big stage. None of Down’s opponents have made it beyond the first round. Abel Trujillo squares off against Ben Crowder, in what, according to MaxFightsDM match maker Brian Green, is a contest of two amazingly similar fighters. Cory Simpson returns to MaxFightsDM to face McKenzie Jackson in a match-up that clearly puts the brawl smack in the center of the ballroom. Brad Floyd is featured as well.

MaxFightsDM is pleased to announce the addition of two new corporate sponsors for this event. Academy Roofing, established in 1988, is one of the largest and most trusted commercial roofing companies in the Midwest and Southeast. Also joining the ranks of MaxFightsDM sponsorship is Sakari Sushi Lounge, Des Moines’s newest and most exciting dining destination, located at 2605 Ingersoll. Sakari’s owners are longstanding supporters of MMA in Iowa.

MaxFightsDM, in cooperation with Lazer 103.3, is pleased to present a pre-show performance of the Kees Camp Kitty Cats dance troupe. Kees Camp is a source of motivational and highly inspired group fitness training, individualized one-on-one personalized training, and pole fitness.

Tickets for Ballroom Brawl III are on sale now and can be purchased at the Val Air box office, on-line at http://www.ticketmaster.com and http://www.maxfightsdm.com, and can be charged by phone at (800)745-3000. You’re able to provide additional support to fighters by purchasing tickets directly from them (available through select fighters). VIP tables can be purchased by calling (515) 274-0849.

Doors open to the public at 6:30 PM with fights beginning at 7:30 PM
