Holtzman Begins Climb of XFC Lightweight Division
A successful XFC debut in February has earned Scott Holtzman his second professional fight in 2012. The Knoxville native will take on Kentucky’s Matt Metts Live on HDNet at XFC 18: Music City Mayhem in Nashville on June 22. Both Holtzman and Metts enter the bout with (1-0) professional records and undefeated amateur records.
Holtzman, who recently signed a long term contract with XFC, will look to begin his climb to the top of the promotions Lightweight ranks. He is currently considered to be one of Tennessee’s top prospects, following an undefeated amateur career and a quick second round submission in his pro debut. That fight took place in February at XFC 16 in Holtzman’s hometown of Knoxville, where he finished Brandon Demastes with a second round RNC. The win over Demastes was Holtzman’s fourth victory by submission dating back to his amateur fights, but he should not yet be labeled as a grappler. In his debut he also showed great use of his striking, as well as the ability to get take downs.
“Scott has most of his wins by submission, but I really like what I see in his stand up. He controlled the pace, he had good head and feet movement, and he mixed it up with kicks and punches,” XFC President John Prisco said of the Lightweight. Holtzman also impressed some XFC fighters in attendance at the Knoxville show. Following the event, former World Champion Jamie Varner, also a Lightweight, invited Holtzman to Arizona to train with him. The offer, made by a former WEC champion, should be an indication of how impressive the pro debut performance really was.
Now back in Knoxville entering the last month of camp before his next fight, Holtzman prepares for another victory and another step up in the standings. The fight which will be broadcast nationally on HDNet, will give Holtzman an opportunity to showcase his talents on tv to millions of MMA fans and work toward his goal of someday becoming the XFC Lightweight champion.
