GLORY 11 Chicago - Live Results and Event Coverage

Postby NWOWolfpack » Sat Oct 12, 2013 7:11 am

GLORY 11 Chicago - Fight Card:

Main Card (Spike TV or PPV):

Heavyweight Tournament Finals:
Rico Verhoeven def. Daniel Ghita via Decision - Unanimous

- Kickass fight for all three rounds, I had Verhoeven winning the decision but I wouldn't have been shocked if the judges gave the decision to Ghita. Rico Verhoeven wins the GLORY 11 Chicago Heavyweight World Championship Tournament and a check for $250,000.00

Light Heavyweight Grudge Bout:
Tyrone Spong def. Nathan Corbett via TKO (Left Hook) Round 2 (1:10)

- There was little doubt this time as to who was the better fighter as Spong had his way with Corbett in round 1 and then he poured it on in the second collecting two knockdowns via the left hook before the ref stopped the fight.

Welterweight Feature Bout:
Joseph Valtellini def. Karim Ghajji via TKO (Referee Stoppage) Round 3 (2:53)

- Bazooka Joe used and abused Ghajii until the ref finally stepped in following a spinning back fist standing eight-count and another flurry of strikes that staggered Ghajji.

Heavyweight Tournament Reserve Bout:
Errol Zimmerman def. Hesdy Gerges via TKO (3 Total Knockdowns) Round 3 (0:38)

- So if Verhoeven or Ghita are unable to fight in the finals tonight, Zimmerman will take their place. Zimmerman looked on top of his game for sure, leaner, meaner and in great shape.

Heavyweight Tournament Bout #2:
Daniel Ghita def. Anderson Silva via TKO (Right Hook) Round 1 (1:56)

- Not much to say. A glancing blow by Ghita nearly KO'ed Silva.

Heavyweight Tournament Bout #1:
Rico Verhoeven def. Gokhan Saki via Decision - Majority (29-27, 29-28, 28-28)

- Referee scored a slip by Saki in round 1 as a knockdown and it basically cost Saki the fight, in my opinion, but according to the judges it may not have mattered. Great performance by Rico.

GLORY Superfight Series (Non-Televised - Available on Glory's Website in 2 Weeks):

Sergei Kharitonov def. Daniel Sam via Decision - Unanimous

Danyo Ilunga def. Michael Duut via TKO (Referee Stoppage) Round 1

Raymond Daniels def. Brian Foster via TKO (Strikes) Round 1

Saulo Cavalari def. Filip Verlinden via Decision - Unanimous

Steve Moxon def. Reece McAllister via KO (Punch) Round 3

Gabriel Varga def. Jose Palacios via Decision - Unanimous

Preliminary Card (Non-Televised):

Troy Sheridan def. Michael Mananquil via Decision

Maurice Greene def. Yang Rae Yoo via Decision - Unanimous

Aaron Swenson def. Billy Rose via KO (Spinning Back Kick) Round 2

Kyle Weickhardt def. Quartus Stitt via Decision - Unanimous

Ian Alexander def. Austin Lewis via Decision - Split

Axel Mendez def. Jordan Weiland via Decision - Unanimous

What do you expect? The comedian is dead.

Awesome fights but this super-fight no-air, not even internet is borderline bullshit. Why would I watch most fights when I already know who wins?

Rico looked like a beast tonight and Spong smashed Corbett like a Fosters can. No disrespect to Corbett though.

I can't argue with how good Verhoeven looked last night but I still think Saki beats him 9/10 times. Also, is everyone else just as confused as I am about the Superfight series and why it is not available until weeks after everyone knows the results? Why are some of the best kick fighters signed with Glory for so called dark matches?

Six fights, three knockouts - the GLORY Superfight Series fights which took place ahead of GLORY 11 CHICAGO did not disappoint.

STRIKEFORCE and PRIDE FC veteran Sergey Kharitonov (4-3) made his return to the kickboxing ring with a fight against Daniel Sam (21-9).

The British champion took the first round with crisp combination work against the tentative Kharitonov but the Russian turned up the heat in the second, punishing his opponent with brutal body shots and heavy hooks.

Sam faded as Kharitonov completely dominated the third round, taking a unanimous decision win 29-28 from each judge.

Former #1 light-heavyweight Danyo Ilunga (54-5) lost his ranking spot to Tyrone Spong at GLORY 9 and now sits at #2. Michael Duut (38-5) had plenty to say about that in pre-fight comments, saying he would be demoting Ilunga to #3 by knockout.

That created some bad feeling between the two but unfortunately the heated fight finished near the end of the first round when Duut sustained an arm injury and was unable to continue.

Karate champion Raymond Daniels (24-0) scored perhaps the most impressive KO of the evening when he took out UFC veteran Brian Foster with a perfectly-placed hook-kick. The rare technique is just one of many in Daniels’ unusual arsenal and he promised fans there is plenty more to come.

Competing for Knockout of the Night was ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Moxon’s (34-6-1) win over 21-year-old prospect Reece McAllister (36-5-1). Initially Moxon struggled with McAllister’s longer range but he found his distance at the start of the third round and inflicted a crushing one-hit KO to take himself to 1-1 in GLORY.

Filip Verlinden (41-11-1) and Saulo Cavalari (27-2) had a grueling fight, going the distance via non-stop exchanges of hard combinations. Verlinden won round one but Cavalari edged ahead, taking the last two rounds and winning his GLORY debut by unanimous decision.

The Superfight Series fights were opened by Canadian prodigy Gabriel Varga (23-2) facing STRIKEFORCE veteran Jose Palacios. Round one was close but Varga soon proved too much for Palacios (44-13) to handle. His superior speed, timing and technique won him the fight in style.
