UFC 111 "St. Pierre vs. Hardy"
March 27th, 2010
Prudential Center
Newark, N.J

This weekend the UFC is pulling out all the stops with two titles fights in their return to New Jersey with UFC 111: St. Pierre vs. Hardy. The main event, of course, features UFC welterweight champion and pound-for-pound great George St.Pierre against Dan Hardy, who is the first British fighter to ever challenge for a UFC title. The co-main event puts the UFC interim heavyweight title on the line as former champion Frank Mir battles undefeated prospect Shane Carwin, with the winner later facing champion Brock Lesnar to unify the heavyweight titles.

Main Card:

UFC Welterweight Championship:
Georges St. Pierre vs. Dan Hardy via Unanimous Decision (50-43,50-44,50-45)

Round 1:
GSP shoots and gets the takedown and works from Hardy's half-guard, Hardy lands a few shots from the bottom and GSP presses him to the canvas and takes side control. GSP takes his back and gets in the hooks, Hardy sweeps, escapes and stands up but GSP takes him down again and is in Hardy's half-guard. GSP mounts Hardy and starts with GNP, Hardy gives up his back and GSP sinks in the hooks again looking for the RNC. GSP switches to the armbar and it is in deep but Hardy won't tap and he rolls and escapes.

Round 2:
Both fighters throwing left jabs, inside leg kick by GSP and he shoots and gets another takedown. GSP moves into side control and he lands some GNP, not much though. hardy turns and GSP takes his back again, HArdy stands, escapes and works from GSP's guard. GSP uses his hips to escape and they are back standing. LHK by hardy misses and GSP lands a right that Hardy smiles at. GSP using low leg kicks and he goes for another successful takedown. Hardy holding GSP in his guard as the round ends.

Round 3:
The round starts with another GSP takedown that Hardy can't defend, both fighters exchanging strikes from the ground. GSP getting the better of Hardy with GNP and Hardy is having trouble doing much now but he tries a triangle and GSP slips it and moves to side control. GSP tries for a kimura but Hardy escapes it and is able to get back up briefly before GSP takes him back to the canvas and works from side control again. Hardy rolls and shakes GSP off his back again but GSP sweeps and ends up on top as the bell rings.

Round 4:
Hardy tries to come out swinging but GSP takes him down again and mounts Hardy. Hardy rolls and GSP takes his back and after a scramble, GSP is in Hardy's guard again landing GNP. GSP moves back to side control again but really hasn't hurt Hardy yet but he is definitely controlling the fight and winning every round. GSP gets a kimura after a failed escape by Hardy and is cranking it but Hardy won't tap and he gets his arm free. GSP back in side control and starts landing more GNP before Hardy gets him back in half-guard.

Round 5:
Deja-vu as GSP opens another round with an easy takedown. GSP in top position looking for another submission attempt and he takes Hardy's back again. Hardy turns and GSP takes side control and lands a couple hammerfists, another kimura attempt by GSP but Hardy once again frees his arm. GSP, while winning seems frustrated that Hardy won't give up. Elbows from GSP from the half-guard and another kimura that doesn't work. Hardy lands a few elbows from his back and stands but GSP throws him back down again and more GNP from the Champion as the fight ends.





UFC Interim Heavyweight Championship:
Frank Mir vs. Shane Carwin via KO - Strikes Round 1 (3:48)

Round 1:
They face off in center of the cage, Mir throws a combo and Carwin locks up with him and pushes Mir to the cage looking for a takedown. Short knees to the leg of Mir by Carwin and now punches to Mir's face, Carwin continues with the dirty boxing until the ref separates them. Mir moves in landing a nice combo but after they clinch Carwin turns him back into the cage. Carwin unloads punches and knocks Mir to the ground where Carwin continues to unload on Mir until the ref jumps in as Mir is out cold.




Kurt Pellegrino vs. Fabricio Camoes via Submission - RNC Round 2 (4:20)

Round 1:
Camoes shoots for the single leg but Pellegrino defends well, they clinch against the cage and Camoes gets the throw. Canoes takes his back, Pellegrino stands up with Camoes on his back. Camoes locks in the choke, Pellegrino slams him down on his head, takes Camoes back but Camoes gets to his back and Pellegrino works from fullguard. Pellegrino moves to side control and lands some GNP, Camoes gives up his back and then moves Pellegrino back to his guard. More GNP from Pellegrino, Camoes trying escape and the round ends.

Round 2:
Camoes goes for a sweep and Pellegrino gets the takedown and takes Camoes back before Camoes escapes. Back standing, Camoes misses with a strike and Pellegrino takes him down again. More GNP from Pellegrino as he works from Camoes guard, full mount now for Pellegrino. Pellegrino continues to hold Camoes down and landing strikes a will. Camoes gets back to his feet and eats a knee for his trouble and Pellegrino takes him down again.Camoes gives up his back and taps to the RNC.




Jon Fitch vs. Ben Saunders via Unanimous Decision (30-27 all carsd)

Round 1:
Saunders with a low leg kick and Fitch respond with his own kick, Saunders clinches and pushes Fitch to the cage. Fitch reverses and holds Saunders against the cage and then takes him down. Butterfly guard from Saunders and Fitch landing some nice GNP while trying to pass. Saunders defending well from his back and is landing some effective up-strikes as both are jockeying for position. More of the same, both are staying active.

Round 2:
Fitch comes out with low-high kick combo, Saunders lands a straight left and Fitch clinches and pushes Saunders to cage and then picks up Saunders and takes him down. Looks like a replay of Round 1, Fitch continues to land GNP and trying to pass and Saunders seems comfortable working from his back, crowd starts booing. Fitch moves to half-guard and continues to land strikes to the head and body of Saunders. Fitch is laying on the elbow treatment and the ref stands them up, more of the same, Fitch pushes Saunders to the cage and lands some knees as the round concludes.

Round 3:
Saunders needs to do something down 0-2, Fitch throwing combos, lands a big leg kick and pushes Saunders against the cage again. The ref separates the fighters, Fitch lands another combo and again pushes the action against the cage. Fitch dirty boxing and they break, Fitch catches Saunder's leg on a kick attempt and takes him down again. Fitch working more GNP from Saunders full guard and Saunders has no answer as Fitch's GNP is relentless and he should walk away with a UD.



Jim Miller vs. Mark Bocek via Unanimous Decision (29-28 all cards)

Round 1:
Miller starts with left jabs and Bocek moves in for a double-leg, Miller defends and nearly locks in a guillotine. Bocek escapes they are back standing in the clinch as Bocek lands a few knees. Miller throwing his own knees as they move away from the cage and Miller lands a nice leg kick. Overhand right by Bocek and he shoots again and gets the double-leg slam. Bocek works from the half-guard, Miller tries for the kimura from the bottom and he sweeps Bocek who almost taps. Miller now works from Bocek's guard, GNP from Miller as the round ends.

Round 2:
Both fighters come out swinging, Bocek shoots and gets another takedown. Bocek moves to side control and back to half-guard (Bocek is bleeding from his forehead), both fighters trying to gain position. Full mount now for Bocek and Miller rolls giving up his back, Bocek looking for the RNC and he has the body triangle locked in and one of Miller's arms is trapped. Miller fighting it off, stands up and slams Bocek to the ground as the bell rings.

Round 3:
Uppercut by Miller, body kick by Bocek and both fighters exchanging hooks. Bocek shoots again but Miller defends it well, they continue to swing away in the center of the cage and Bocek tries another takedown. Miller defends again and lands a couple knees and elbow from the clinch. Bocek gets a single leg but Miller gets back to his feet, clinching against cage as Bocek tries for another single leg and he gets it. Miller reverses and takes Bocek's back as the fight ends.
