DREAM. 16 Fight Card:

Dream Light Heavyweight GP Final:
Gegard Mousasi vs. Tatsuya Mizuno via Submission (RNC) RD. 1 (6:10)

RD.1 - Mizuno comes out swinging and stalks Mousasi around the ring, counter kicks by Mousasi and Mizuno lands his own leg kicks. They clinch against the ropes and Mousasi takes him down and works from half guard, GNP by Mousasi and Mizuno gets Mousasi in his guard and nearly gets an armbar on Mousasi. Mousasi takes side control and lands several strikes from the crucifix position, Mizuno tries another armbar and Mousasi pins Mizuno in the corner on his back and lands several hard strikes. Mousasi mounts Mizuno, Mizuno rolls and gives up his back, Mousasi moves around to side control and back to mount. Mousasi laying down strikes and Mizuno escapes but Mousasi sweeps, takes Mizuno's back and locks in the RNC and Mizuno taps.



Jason "Mayhem" Miller vs. Kazushi Sakuraba via Submission (Head-n-Arm Choke) RD. 1 (2:09)

RD.1 - If you get a chance, watch Mayhem Miller's entrance to the ring. Mayhem starts with two rights and Sakuraba comes back with a counter strike of his own, Sakuraba shoots but ends up on his back and Mayhem moves in but his leg is caught so he starts with GNP. Mayhem gets his leg out and lands several jackhammer punches and then locks in the head-n-arm choke and Sakuraba taps.



Shinya Aoki vs. Marcus Aurelio via Decision - Unanimous (3-0)

RD.1 - Aoki works the left kicks to start, Aurelio counters with right hands and Aoki shoots and lands in Aurelio's half guard. Aurelio uses upkicks to get back to his feet, they clinch against the ropes and Aoki takes Aurelio down and mounts him with a body triangle on Aurelio's legs. GNP from Aoki, Aurelio trying to land punches from his back, more GNP from Aoki and Aurelio is bleeding from a cut on his nose. Aoki moves to side control and throws a knee to Aurelio's ribs, not much action besides a few shots from Aoki and the ref stands the fighters up.....Aurelio gets a yellow card for no fucking reason. They scramble, Aurelio takes Aoki back but Aoki sweeps and ends up in Aurelio's guard and he lands some good GNP shots.

RD.2 - They immediately clinch in the corner, Aoki drops down and gets the double-leg takedown. Aoki punching from Aurelio's half guard, Aoki passes and mounts Aurelio, more GNP from Aoki and Aurelio continues to punch from his back. Hammerfists have opened a big cut over Aurelio's right eye and the fight ends with more GNP by Aoki from the mount.



Satoshi Ishii vs. Ikuhisa "Minowaman" Minowa via Decision - Unanimous (3-0)

RD.1 - Minowaman starts with a low leg kick, they both move in and Ishii pushes Minowaman into the corner and takes him down. Ishii moves to side control, now north-south and back to side control, now takes the back of Minowaman and they stand up with Ishii controlling but the ref moves them back to the center of the ring. Ishii pushes him back to the ropes and takes Minowaman down and again works from side control. GNP by Ishii as he takes Minowaman's back, Minowaman escapes and they stand up, both fighters throwing strikes now. Ishii grabs him and takes Minowaman down again, Minowaman gets a leg during a scramble on the ground but Ishii escapes the heelhook, side control now for Ishii and he takes Minowaman's back. Both fighters back standing and another takedown for Ishii, rolling escape from Minawaman, knees from the clinch by Minowaman and the round ends.

RD.2 - Both fighters posturing to start the round, Ishii lands a right hook, grabs Minowaman and throws him down. Side control and GNP by Ishii, Minowaman turns and Ishii takes his back but Minowaman gets to his feet. There is a brief exchange of strikes and again Ishii pushes Minowaman to the ropes and takes him down again. GNP by Ishii as he looks for an arm but again Minowaman gives up his back and maintains control and continues with the GNP. The fight ends with Ishii trying a head-n-arm choke.




INTERMISSION




Chase Beebe vs. Hiroyuki Takaya via TKO (Strikes) RD. 1 (1:45)

RD.1 - Beebe comes out swinging, Takaya counters with a leg kick and Beebe lands a knee from the clinch. Beebe keeps trying to land knees and clinch Takaya, both fighters throwing strikes and Takaya floors Beebe with a big left and he jumps in and GNP's Beebe unconscious.



Cole Escovedo vs. Michihiro Omigawa via Submission (Armbar) RD. 1 (2:29)

RD.1 - Escovedo opens up with knees from clinch and Omigawa takes him down, Omigawa mounts him and starts with the GNP. Omigawa moves to side control and tries for a choke but Escovedo sweeps and works from Omigawa's butterfly guard. Omigawa gets a hold of Escovedo's arm and locks it and Escovedo taps to a reverse armbar and his elbow pops.



Joachim Hansen vs. Hideo Tokoro via Submission (Triangle Choke ) RD. 1 (2:48)

RD.1 - Right hook by Tokoro, dick kick by Hansen and the fight resumes. Right body kick by Tokoro and another groin kick by Hansen....yellow card for Hansen. The fight resumes again, LHK by Tokoro and he also lands several strikes, in a scramble Hansen takes Tokoro down and lands in mount and unleashes GNP. Hansen stands and tries get a better position on Tokoro, moves in and gets a head triangle and pounds away at Tokoro's head. Hansen rolls over and keeps the triangle, Tokoro picks him and slams him but he can't escape the choke and eventually taps.



Takeshi Inoue vs. Kazuyuki Miyata via Decision - Unanimous (3-0)

RD.1 - Miyata has corn rows in his hair and Takeshi has some kind of fur on the sides of his shorts. Feeling out process to start the fight, Takeshi moves in and lands a knee but Miyata takes him down and works from Takeshi's butterfly guard. Not much action and the ref stands them up, body kick by Miyata and grabs Takeshi and suplexes him not once but twice. Miyata works from Takeshi's back now from his own back, Takeshi escapes and they exchange leg kicks and Miyata lands a nice right. Miyata tries for another takedown, Takeshi sweeps and lands on top but they get right back up. Miyata takes Takeshi's back standing again, another suplex from Miyata and then Takeshi breaks free with a spinning backfist. During a clinch exchange, Takeshi lands a knee to Miyata's balls, the fight resumes after a 10 minute break and Takeshi moves in and is taken down by Miyata again. After no action the fighters are stood up, knees from clinch by Takeshi, Miyata shoots and eats a knee on his way in but gets the takedown anyway.

RD.2 - Both fighters looking to land strikes, another brief exchange and Miyata pushes Takeshi to ropes and takes him down again. Takeshi showing great butterfly guard again, minimal GNP from Miyata and Takeshi escapes. They exchange strikes and Takeshi lands another cup shot....yellow card for Takeshi. The fight resumes, both fighters are more aggressive and Miyata is winning the striking battle. Miyata seals the fight with another takedown.



Mitsuhiro Ishida vs. Akiyo "Wicky" Nishiura via Decision - Split (2-1)

RD.1 - Wicky stalks Ishida to start the fight, Ishida shoots and takes Wicky down, Wicky gets to his feet and Ishida picks him up and slams Wicky to the canvas. Wicky is able to stand again but Ishida maintains body control and gets another takedown. Wicky reverses and puts Ishida on his back and lands several strikes before Ishida gets to feet. Wicky lands a big knee to the face and Ishida eventually gets him own again. Up and down they continue to go and each time Wicky gets up he knees Ishida in the face. Ishida is relentless with his body control and isn't giving Wicky any space until the ref breaks them. Wicky moves in and again Ishida shoots, gets Wicky on his back and works from half guard. GNP from Ishida, Wicky reverses again but can't get away from Ishida's grasp. The ref breaks them up again, more of the same, takedown by Ishida and the round ends.

RD.2 - Wicky misses a flying knee and Ishida shoots and to the crowds surprise gets another takedown. The ref stands them up, Wicky hits a right uppercut, Ishida grabs and takes Wicky down. Ishida gets the mount, in a scramble, Wicky gets back to his feet but he is wearing Ishida like a coat. After another break, Wicky lands a big knee, a bloody Ishida shoots, hammerfists by Wicky and the bell rings.



Yusuke Kawaguchi vs. James Thompson via Decision - Split (2-1)

RD.1 - Both fighters come out swinging, Kawaguchi pushes Thompson into the ropes, they beak and exchange more punches. Thompson gets the clinch and lands several knees, back in the center of the ring Thompson kind of shoots for the takedown but they end up clinching. When the fighters break, Kawaguchi lands combo after combo but Thompson recovers and eventually pushes Kawaguchi to the ropes. The ref breaks them up, another clinch, they separate and Kawaguchi drops Thompson with a good combo. Thompson recovers, they are back standing, not much action, finally both fighters start throwing strikes and both are very gassed. Thomspon scores a single leg takedown, GNP by Thompson from Kawaguchi's half guard, Kawaguchi escapes to his feet and eats a few punches from Thompson for his troubles. After a brief exchange, Thompson gets another takedown, Kawaguchi is bleeding freely from his nose and the round ends with Thompson getting mount and landing more GNP.

RD.2 - After a few leg kicks, Thompson tries another takedown but Kawaguchi keeps his balance and they end up clinching again, Muay Thai knees from Thompson and both fighters look ready to pass out. Thompson shoots again and works from Kawaguchi's guard, Thompson moves to mount and continues with the GNP. The fight ends with Thompson raining down minimal strength punches from the mount.


OPENING CEREMONY

- The Opening Ceremony is underway as they are announcing the judges and referees. Now the music has started and we are underway for DREAM. 16. The in arena event poster is tens times better than the one above.

- The Voice and Frank Trigg open the show wearing Sakuraba masks and the arena looks about 1/2 full.

10 fights tonight!! Thats badass. Miller is going to hurt Sakuraba and Aoki will win in the 1st round.

It looks like a real good card....................we'll see though, the first fight is going to end in the first 3 minutes.

Personally, I think Thompson was robbed...........................but that is just my opinion.
