Brock Lesnar vs. Cain Velasquez via TKO (Strikes) Round 1 (4:12)
- Cain Velasquez is the UFC Heavyweight Champion.
- RD. 1 - Lesnar immediately looks for the clinch and he lands a few knees (including a flying knee) and then gets the takedown. Velasquez is quick to get back up and Lesnar holds him against the cage. Lesnar takes him down again and Velasquez is right back up and they exchange strikes. Velasquez takes down Lesnar and he starts landing some GNP from Lesnar's back. Lesnar back up and Velasquez stalks him and lands comvo after combo putting Lesnar down. Velasquez moves in lands more GNP, Lesnar bleeding and he takes more punishment before Herb Dean stops the fight and there is a new champion.
Jake Shields vs. Martin Kampmann via Decision - Split (29-28, 30-27, 28-29)
- RD. 1 - Shields stalks Kampmann, pushes him into the cage and gets the takedown, Shields works from Kampmann's half guard and he moves to full mount. Kampmann uses his rubber guard to escape and stand back up. Shields holds him against the cage and eventually Kampmann escapes completely and the exchange strikes in the center of the cage. Kampmann trying to keep Shields at bay with strikes and Shields is using leg kicks to set up his takedown.
- RD. 2 - Again Shields stalks Kampmann looking for the takedown, Shields pushes Kampmann against the cage and Kampmann reverses and lands a big knee. Shields brushes off a Guillotine attempt by Kampmann and gets a takedown but Kampmann is right back up and he lands a knee from the clinch that cuts Shields. Shields is warned for the third time for grabbing the shorts ala Kongo. Shields gets the takedown and mounts Kampmann but he is moved to the half guard. Shields passes again and is in mount, Kampmann escapes again and holds Shields against the cage and he lands a few knees before Big John McCarthy breaks them up.
- RD. 3 - Kampmann blocks a shoot from Shields and lands a LHK, Shields shoots again but he looks out of gas. Another stuffed takedown by Kampmann and he takes Shields back and lands some GNP but Shields gets back up but after a brief skirmish, Kampmann gets him back down and tries to work a D'arce choke from north-south position. Kampmann now landing GNP from Shields half guard and Shields reverses and ends up in Kampmann's half guard. Side control now for Shields, Kampmann gives up his back trying to escape, body lock for Shields, and the fight is over.
Diego Sanchez vs. Paulo Thiago via Decision - Unanimous (30-26, 29-28, 29-28)
- RD. 1 - Sanchez comes out the more aggressive striker but then he shoots and Thiago catches him and lands some nice knees. They clinch against the cage and exchange knees and then break. Sanchez throwing the overhand right and Thiago gets him again and takes Sanchez down. Thiago works from half guard and when he tries a D'arce choke, Sanchez escapes and they are back standing. Combos from Sanchez, Thiago is bleeding from the bridge of his nose and Sanchez pushes him against the cage. Thiago responds with a flurry as round one ends.
- RD. 2 - Thiago moves in with combo and Sanchez tries to counter, Sanchez shoots for the double leg and after a skirmish Sanchez lands on top in a reverse mount. Sanchez now works from Thiago's half guard, kimura attempt by Thiago.....action is briefly stopped as Thiago hits Sanchez in the back of the head.....fight resumes, GNP by Sanchez and Thiago escapes but Sanchez picks him up in the air and slams Thiago down. GNP now by Sanchez as he takes Thiago's back and Thiago escapes at the bell.
- RD. 3 - Thiago is bloody and Sanchez gets a takedown with top control after defending the attempt by Thiago. Sanchez works from half guard, then he takes Thiago's back, locks in the body triangle and Sanchez continues with the GNP. After a brief mount position, Thiago escapes for the moment but Sanchez jumps right back on top of but eats an up-kick for his effort. After another ground skirmish, Sanchez is in full guard and raining down strikes. GNP by Sanchez from Thiago's back as the fight ends.
Tito Ortiz vs. Matt Hamill via Decision - Unanimous (29-28, 29-28, 30-27)
- RD. 1 - Ortiz comes out with strikes and kicks, pushing the action and Hamill catches a kick and takes Ortiz down. Ortiz escapes but he is bleeding form the right side of his head. Back standing, more kicks from Ortiz and he is now bleeding from under his right eye from the ground exchange earlier. Left hooks by Hamill and both fighters are now throwing kicks, Ortiz remains aggressive and he is landing more precise strikes. Damage goes to Hamill and Technique goes to Ortiz.
- RD. 2 - Leg kicks by Ortiz and Hamill answers with a LHK, then an exchange of strikes leads to a knee from the clinch by Ortiz. Another good combo by Ortiz ends with another knee from the clinch, Hamill peppers with strikes and takes Ortiz down and works from Ortiz's full guard. GNP now by Hamill, Ortiz gives up his back and rolls, Hamill lands in side control and continues with the GNP as the round ends.
- RD. 3 - Hamill should be ahead 2-0 on the cards. Hamill toying with Ortiz using his jab and Ortiz responds with a big right followed by more leg kicks but Hamill just keeps peppering Ortiz's face and it is showing. Not much action, both fighters are throwing but no real damage being done until Hamill shoots and gets another takedown. GNP again from Hamill, elbows and hammerfists, and that is how the fight ends.
Brendan Schaub vs. Gabriel Gonzaga via Decision - Unanimous (30-27 all judges)
- RD. 1 - Schaub comes out throwing strikes and Gonzaga is trying to land leg kicks, overhand rights by Schaub and it's all Schaub early. Gonzaga is having trouble matching Schaub's speed and he continues to counter with leg kicks. Schaub connected with several combos and put Gonzaga down at the bell but ran out of time in the first frame.
- RD. 2 - Schaub continues to move forward with strikes and more leg kicks by Gonzaga in response. Both fighters looking tentative until Schaub rushes in again with another combo. Only two takedown attempts so far by Gonzaga and he is bleeding from the nose as Schaub moves forward again and lands several combos. Another round for Schaub as he finishes it with another combo.
- RD. 3 - After a brief exchange, Schaub shoots, Gonzaga sprawls and the stand-up battle continues. More precise striking from Schaub and so far Gonzaga has no answers and he is not throwing many kicks. The action has slowed now and although both are throwing some strikes, they are not hurting either fighter. With 10 seconds left Schaub shoots and nearly gets caught in RNC as the bell rings.
Spike TV Preliminary Card:
Court McGee vs. Ryan Jensen via Submission (Arm-Triangle Choke) Round 3 (1:21)
- Round 1, both fighters came out swinging and Jensen dropped McGee with a left hook, got a takedown and landed some GNP. When McGee got back to his feet Jensen punished him with strikes and kicks until the last minute of round when McGee started showing some life with strikes and leg kicks of his own.
- Round 2 was a stand-up battle with McGee landing more precise strikes and bloodying the nose and mouth of Jensen. (The crowd boos loudly, not because of the fight but because Josh Koscheck made his way to his seat cageside). McGee gets a takedown at the bell and he won this round and Jensen looked tired at the end of the round.
- Round 3, McGee comes out very aggressive, lands some good strikes and he takes Jensen to the ground. After some GNP, McGee chokes out Jensen from the full mount with an arm-triangle.
Patrick Cote vs. Tom Lawlor via Decision - Unanimous (30-27 all judges)
- Round 1 saw Lawlor get an early takedown and smother Cote with GNP and submission attempts to control the first frame.
- Round 2 was more of the same with Lawlor getting takedowns, issuing GNP and Lawlor should be ahead 2-0.
- Round 3 was an exact copy of the first two rounds with Lawlor taking Cote down at will and using ground control, GNP and submission attempts to win the fight.
Preliminary Card:
