Kelly Pavlik (32-0, 29 KOs) scored a knockout victory over Jermain Taylor (27-1-1, 17 KOs) this past Saturday night at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey to become the new undisputed middleweight boxing champion of the world.
Pavlik was dropped by Taylor in the second round, but got back up and the two slugged it out for the remaining five rounds in what up until the stoppage was an incredibly exciting prize fight.
Pavlik earned the stoppage at 2:14 of round seven with a big right hand, followed up by a barrage of vicious punches that forced the referee to call a stop in the action, giving Pavlik the victory and the title.
The judges had Taylor comfortably ahead on the scorecards at the time of the stoppage.
