DENVER - The best amateur boxers in the United States are in Denver this week for the 2009 USA Boxing National Championships.
In 2008, Louie Byrd of Denver, won the 106-pound division. The kid from Lincoln High School is back this year and looking to win it all again, this time at 112 pounds.
Louie, who's also the 2009 Golden Gloves Champion, was less than a month too young to compete for the 2008 Olympic Team, but he is one of the early favorites for the 2012 team. He is trained by his father, Jeff Byrd.
Louie won his match over Davila Leroy in a 3rd round TKO on Tuesday. Byrd is now three wins away from the Championship. All the Championship matches will be held on Saturday night.
