10 Questions With Alvin Robinson (by Darrick Patrick)
Alvin "Kid" Robinson is a professional mixed martial artist who has competed in organizations such as the Ultimate Fighting Championship, Ring Of Fire, FightForce, and TKO Major League MMA. At the time of this interview, his most recent match was against Mark Bocek last month at UFC 91 - Couture vs. Lesnar.
Darrick: What was the journey that led you to professional mixed martial arts competition?
Alvin: I have wanted to be a fighter since I was around four or five years old watching Bloodsport. I started wrestling in high school and one year in college. By that time, MMA was a real sport and I started training Jiu-Jitsu and boxing. I had my first fight eight months after I began training BJJ.
Darrick: Who are a few of the people in the sport that you highly respect?
Alvin: I have much respect for Royce Gracie because he took on all challengers when there were no rules, no time limits, and no weight classes. Royce continues to fight top competition today and is still my favorite fighter. I also have a ton of respect for Dana White. Dana helped to make MMA what it is today and despite what some may say, he cares for and takes care of his fighters.
Darrick: What brings you the most fulfillment out of martial arts?
Alvin: Of course winning is a great feeling, but I would have to say being able to compete against the best fighters in the world. I am living my lifelong dream of being a professional fighter.
Darrick: Do you have any words of advice for other individuals looking to compete in MMA?
Alvin: The Hulkster said it best - "train, say your prayers, and eat your vitamins".
Darrick: What does a typical training session for you consist of?
Alvin: It depends on the day. I might do cardio and BJJ in the morning, wrestle a few hours later, and then train some stand-up in the evening. Or I might spar in the morning, then lift and do cardio in the evening. I try to mix it up as much as I can.
Darrick: Who are some of the people that greatly influenced you while growing up?
Alvin: I would have to say God, of course. I have always had a good relationship with the Lord and I believe that's what kept me on track. I also would have to say my mom - she worked up to three jobs to support my two sisters and I. She never gave up on us. She also taught me how to stand up for myself and never to give up on my dreams.
Darrick: Outside of MMA, what are your other interests?
Alvin: I love sports, going to live sporting events, and I recently got into fantasy football. Although I would have to say that I really prefer spending time with family and friends, or just having a nice romantic night with my girl.
Darrick: What is your oldest memory?
Alvin: I have a really good memory, so I'd say it was when I was about four years old and went to my first WWE event. The main event was "Rowdy" Roddy Piper vs. Greg "The Hammer" Valentine.
Darrick: If you had 24 hours left to live, how would you spend that time?
Alvin: I would just want to spend time with all of my friends and family. Nothing crazy.
Darrick: Tell us something about you that most people don't know.
Alvin: I am probably one of the most friendly people alive. If you see me out and about, come say hello. I am definitely a "people person".

Anyone I've ever talked to who knows Alvin says he is a great guy.
I usually don't hear that 100% of the time with other people.
