Roger Craig
Davenport Central High School
Football
University of Nebraska
San Francisco 49’ers

Roger Craig – Semifinalist for NFL Hall of Fame and a key offensive running back and pass receiver for the San Francisco 49’ers in the 1980’s when he was named to that decade's all-star football team. Roger was a truly great running back football star and enjoyed a fabulous pro career with San Francisco as teammate of Joe Montana, Jerry Rice and Steve Young, (three Super Bowl wins) following outstanding years in high school and at Nebraska during its halcyon days. Roger is one of the biggest and overall best running back in Iowa prep history. He became the National Football League prototype for combination running back-receiver and was a real threat in the passing game and was the first pro running back to gain more than 1000 yards running and 1000 yards receiving in a single season. Among other civic commitments, Roger has been an important factor in fund raising for the United Way of the Quad Cities.

With the exception of Michael Phelps in swimming, Shawn is the most popular and admired and sought after American 2008 Olympian for appearances, for endorsements and general admiration for her skill, her, and her unbelievable persona as evidence on all the truly major talk shows. She was interviewed specifically for this show and even after a 40-city arduous performance tour and other major meetings and appearances, she came to our Iowa Hall of Pride and was gracious, cool and fun to be with and best of all, provided a great interview.

Fred Hoiberg
Ames High School
Basketball
Iowa State University

Fred’s career is one of the best in Iowa High School and Iowa State
University history from the combination of quality performances on the basketball court, in the classroom, and in his school and in the community of Ames. Powerful examples of his superb profile include: petitions totaling 10,000 signatures in the Central Iowa area to plead with him to attend Iowa State University rather than other big name schools. Along the way he acquired the title of “Mayor of Ames. ”Fred started as a freshman and was a terrific and consistent scorer. He followed with a productive 10-year pro basketball career with Indiana, Chicago and Minnesota, His playing career ended due to a heart problem that cardiac specialists felt it to be necessary for him to retire from active play. Fred is now an assistant general manager with the Timber Wolves and still very much a favorite son and athlete in Ames and Iowa State.

Tom Brands
Sheldon High School
Wrestling
University of Iowa

In just his second year as University of Iowa Head Wrestling Coach, Tom led the Iowa Hawkeyes to the Big Ten Title and the NCAA Team Title. His team is currently rated #1 in the nation. As a wrestler for the University of Iowa, Tom won three Big Ten Titles, three NCAA Championships, and one World Title. He climaxed his active career with an Olympic Gold Medal in 1996 in phenomenal fashion, with a total of just one point against him in six matches.

Lolo Jones
Des Moines Roosevelt High School
Track
Louisiana State University

Lolo is a talented hurdler and printer who steadily honed her hurdles skills and speed from high school to college to the professional circuit, culminating this year with an Olympic qualification and a favorite in the Olympic 100 meter hurdles. In the finals, Lolo was in the lead and increasing it when she nicked the next to last hurdle and suffered a heartbreaking finish, less than 20 yards from her ultimate life time goal and a seven-figure sure thing in performing and appearances and endorsements.

All of Iowa and, it turns out, the nation, are impressed with her determination and success in fighting back to compete with the 2012 Olympics as her goal. Two weeks after the 0lympics, she won a major race in Zurich.

She has just won the U S Track & Field organization’s Humanitarian of theYear award for the financial aid and appearances in Iowa on behalf of flood relief and to provide new shoes and money for track improvements at her Des Moines high school

PRIDE OF ARIZONA WRESTLING, JOSH CHANG NAMED TAKEDOWN RADIO NATIONAL HIGH
SCHOOL WRESTLER OF THE MONTH

Des Moines, IA- January 22, 2009- The list of wrestling royalty continues to
grow as TakeDown Radio names Arizona high school senior Josh Chang as the
fifth recipient of the High School Wrestler of the Month Award. The award,
presented by Resilite and made possible by Brute Adidas, Sunflower Wrestling
Supply. W.I.N. Magazine, and http://intermatwrestle.com,
recognizes one athlete from throughout the country for athletic and academic
performance, community involvement, and perseverance.

Josh Chang attends Mingus High School in Cottonwood, AZ and is coached by
Tom Wokash. The 17 year old senior has wrestled for seven years, currently
wrestling at 135 lbs. and owns a 144-10 overall high school record. In addition
to competing in swimming and track, Josh carries a 4.0 grade average and was

As well as being part of TDR High School Wrestler of the Month legacy,
wrestling legacy is part of the Chang family as Josh's brother went on to wrestle
for Embry Little University in nearby Prescott, AZ. Josh's future plans may
very well follow his brothers footsteps. Josh's place as the 17th four time

described Josh as " A young man who wears his wins with the same humility as his

positive".

The first TDR High School Award began in Pennsylvania, moved to Oklahoma,
then Iowa, and now Arizona. Along with being the home of Olympic Gold Medalist
Henry Cejudo, Arizona now claims another top achiever in his own category,

HOFSTRA TO HONOR 1977 NATIONAL CHAMPION NICK GALLO AT SUNDAY’S CORNELL MATCH!!

Congratulations to our friend, All American, NCAA Champion, World Silver
Medalist, Coach and President of TW Promotions (Asics America)

HEMPSTEAD, NY - Hofstra Athletics will honor its only national
wrestling champion Nick Gallo ’78 this Sunday, February 8 at halftime
of the 21st-ranked Pride’s match against third-ranked Cornell at the
David S. Mack Sports Complex. Match time is 5 p.m.

In an effort to acknowledge the outstanding accomplishments of numerous
former student-athletes during the University's nearly 75 years of
existence, Hofstra University announced last year that a group of 20
past Pride athletes will have their jersey numbers retired.

"The honoring of these 20 former student-athletes is a celebration of
the outstanding history of Hofstra Athletics," commented Hofstra
University Director of Athletics Jack Hayes.

Gallo, a three-time NCAA Championship qualifier, captured the 126-pound
national championship and was named the NCAA Championship’s Most
Outstanding Wrestler in 1977. He earned All-America honors in 1975, by
placing fourth and 1977 with the national title. During his four years
at Hofstra Gallo recorded a 104-14 record. He was a silver medalist in
the 1980 World Cup, Pan American Trials Champion in 1979, and a member
of the 1976 and 1980 Olympic Freestyle Wrestling Teams.

In 1979, Gallo returned to Hofstra as the head wrestling coach and
proceeded to record a 49-25-0 record over the next four years including
East Coast Conference championships in 1980, 1982 and 1983. In his first
season he led the Pride to a 15-6 dual match record. A year later
Hofstra placed 26th at the NCAA Championships with only two
participants, Ed Pidgeon and Mike Hogan. In 1982 the Pride returned to
the top of the ECC with a 12-4 record and sent three wrestlers to the
national tournament. In his final year as coach Gallo led the Pride to a
13-3 mark, captured their third ECC title, sent five wrestlers to the
NCAA Championships and finished 24th in the country.

Gallo, who was inducted into the Hofstra Athletics Hall of Fame in
2006, is also a member of the Suffolk Country Hall of Fame and received
the Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.
He is currently the president of TW Promotions, the exclusive New York
metropolitan area distributor of the RESILITE wrestling mat and
protective wall padding line, and supplier of Asics products.
