10 Questions With Antwain Britt (by Darrick Patrick)

Antwain "The Juggernaut" Britt is a professional mixed martial artist who has appeared in organizations such as Cagefest Xtreme, Ultimate Warrior Challenge, C3 Fights, YAMMA Pit Fighting, Smash MMA, Wild Bill's Fight Night, and Mixed Martial Arts Championship. He was also on the eighth season of the television show The Ultimate Fighter. At the time of this interview, his next scheduled match is against Jamal Patterson at UWC: Man O' War on February 21st, 2009.

Darrick: What was the road that led you to professional mixed martial arts competition?

Antwain: Well, I was an athlete in high school with all-state football and wrestling. Then after I left college, I had really gotten out of shape. When a friend referred me to the Hybrid Academy in Virginia Beach, I saw it as a chance to get back to where I wanted to be. I ended up being pretty good at it, had my first fight three months later, and I haven't looked back.

Darrick: Your next scheduled match is against Jamal Patterson on February 21st. What are your thoughts about this upcoming fight?

Antwain: I think it's going to be a good one. The classic clash in styles from two well-rounded guys. We both have something to prove and whoever can impose their will is gonna' win.

Darrick: What brings you the most fulfillment out of martial arts?

Antwain: The fact that I can go out and do something that I love. This sport gives me the chance to meet people I wouldn't have otherwise met and go places I wouldn't have went. I'm blessed to be here and to be good at what I do.

Darrick: Who are a few of the people in the sport that you highly respect?

Antwain: Brandon Vera comes from the same town as me and I pattern a lot of my game after his. B.J. Penn is a beast and I would like to get my reputation to where his is one day. Also, my coach and friend Buck Grant for sure. He took the most raw form of a guy and helped turn him into a crusher in the cage. I can honestly say that if I would have walked into any other gym in my area, I would not have been as successful.

Darrick: Any words of advice for other individuals looking to compete in MMA?

Antwain: Train hard, listen to what the guys that are there have to say, work on your weaknesses, and be honest with yourself. If you know you are a great puncher, but never wrestled, then find a guy who's a great wrestler. Be humble. No matter how much you know, there is someone out there who will know more.

Darrick: Who are some of the people that greatly influenced you while growing up?

Antwain: My mom without a doubt. She worked very hard to make sure we had what we needed. She is the main reason that I am where I am today. My kids drive me to want to be better and to be successful. In this job, I don't get to spend as much time with them as I would like but I'm learning to find a balance.

Darrick: Outside of MMA, what are your other interests?

Antwain: MMA leaves little time for anything else, but I do like to swim laps in the pool and I'm a great sculptor.

Darrick: If you were the last person alive on Earth, what do you think you'd do to entertain yourself?

Antwain: I would probably find a way to make the first life-size organic doll out there and also read the dictionary a lot so I could impress all of my imaginary friends. (Laughs)

Darrick: What is your oldest memory?

Antwain: I think that would be sitting in my dad's car waiting for him, jumping in the driver's seat, and throwing the car in reverse by mistake into oncoming traffic. Luckily my dad was an athlete also!

Darrick: Tell us something about you that most people don't know.

Antwain: I'm very, very down to earth. I love my fans and I never get enough of them. So if you see me out there, then act like you know me. Oh, and my favorite cheat foods are cookies and homemade Queso dip.
