Manny Gamburyan Becomes Newest WEC Featherweight

The Ultimate Fighter season five finalist Manny Gamburyan will be dropping from the UFC's lightweight division to the WEC's featherweight division following a split decision loss to Thiago Tavares at UFC 94.

Gamburyan (8-4) entered the Spike TV-based reality show with a 6-1 record, losing only to former UFC lightweight champion Sean Sherk, but picking up wins over Sam Morgan and current top ten middleweight Jorge Santiago.

Gamburyan reached the finals with superior wrestling and judo, but subsequently lost to Nathan Diaz after his shoulder dislocated during a takedown attempt in the second round. “The Anvil” rebounded with two fast submissions over Nate Mohr and Jeff Cox, but has most recently lost his last two bouts – the decision to Tavares and by KO to Rob Emerson.

Sources with the WEC have told PDG that they expect Gamburyan to make his debut with the promotion in May or June, though no plans are finalized at this time and no opponents were mentioned.
