Lyoto Machida: “The new Chuck Norris?”

Postby Educr1 » Wed Mar 04, 2009 5:49 am

Lyoto Machida (14-0) is back to Brazil after had knocked out Thiago Alves at UFC 94 but his routine of training is done. Still this month, he is going to travel to Canada to start a new business: to take part of a movie as an actor.

“With the growth of the sport, I was invited to take part of a movie that is going to be set in Canada. I am very happy with this opportunity for it shows the serious work I have done.” Said the undefeated UFC fighter to UOL Esporte.

Lyoto is excited about his chance but still don’t know many details over the production. “They didn’t tell me nothing yet. I don’t know even the type of movie it’s going to be. The only thing I know it’s going to be in Canada. The director looked for me right after the fight versus Thiago and we will record it in the middle of March or early April.”

This new adventure won’t mess the plans of The Brazilian Dragon to get the title shot of the light heavyweight division still in 2009. “My target now is not this. I’m doing it for the opportunity but my goal really is the fight. For me, the day of the fight is the day of the party. There is where all is going to happen and where I can show my tecnique.”

“All of this is consequence of my work. What I need is training to be well in the fight. My aim is become a world champion and keep myself on the top. But of course if there’s a free time and appear a great opportunity, why not?”

Machida made a joke with this chance remembering other actor-fighters who got the success into the cinema. “You can see, for instance, Chuck Norris and Steven Segal. They’re true fighters and went on to the movies. Actually I prefer to remain in MMA. But who knows I may become a star-movie? Hollywood is there, no?” (laughs)

“But their situation is kind of different of mine. The ran out from the amateur fights to the pro-cinema. I am a professional of the fight and
the movie came out me in consequence.” Commented Lyoto.

Machida was born in the same city than Antonio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira, Salvador-BA, but lives in Belém-PA since three months of life and never forget his origin: “I am very happy for someone who went out from a state where there are just a few opportunities, a place where the government doesn’t support the people. Besides, in Brazil, you want or not, there are much prejudice in the North and Northeast of the country. So it shows a great evolution, a big growth, and I feel happy to participate of it.” Finished the athlete.
