Darrick: Who are a few of the people in the sport that you highly respect?
Yahir: First off, my uncle Miguel Reyes for the experiences he gave me in kickboxing and Muay Thai. Also, Virgilio Lozano for being my first submission fighting trainer.
Darrick: Your next scheduled match is against Nick Gonzalez on April 3rd. What are your thoughts about this upcoming fight?
Yahir: I want everyone to see the real style of the Mexican fighter. I feel more than ready to represent my country. Although I know Nick Gonzalez has a lot of experience, I feel fully capable of obtaining this victory.
Darrick: Do you have any words of advice for other individuals looking to compete in MMA?
Yahir: My main advice is to have a lot of heart in this sport - a lot of heart and dedication. I believe those are the keys to success.
Darrick: What brings you the most fulfillment out of martial arts?
Yahir: I think the most fulfilling for me is teaching my students the way of mixed martial arts. Nothing satisfies me more than to see them grow in this sport.
Darrick: Who are some of the people that greatly influenced you while growing up?
Yahir: As far as fighting goes, my uncles Miguel and Herman Reyes are the greater part of my motivation in that aspect. My mom Alicia Reyes is my number one motivation in life in general.
Darrick: Outside of MMA, what are your other interests?
Yahir: I have always been interested in biotechnology, therefore I am currently studying to be a biochemical engineer.
Darrick: What is your oldest memory?
Yahir: When I was four years old, I remember my uncle Herman making me train in kickboxing for two hours a day.
Darrick: Tell us something about you that most people don't know.
Yahir: I still like to watch cartoons.
Darrick: What moment in your life have you been proudest of so far?
Yahir: I would have to say that the proudest moment of my life thus far is when I was eighteen and I won my first kickboxing championship. All of my friends and family were there to live that moment with me as well.
