Edu Ramos – Brasil Combate

Cristiane 'Cyborg' Santos has spoken of her difficulties making weight for her fight with Hitomi Akano at Strikeforce last week, and also responded to comments made in a recent blog post by Josh Barnett, who cornered Akano.

“I used the same diet that I used to fight Shayana and I made 140lbs, much less than this time. But I had a little problem that all women suffer every month. I had the menstrual period three days before the weigh-in and it put me in trouble.” said Cyborg.

Cristiane said that the fight ran as she expected for but there was some confusion since Akano initially pulled out of the fight when Santos failed to make weight. She had to make the weight again after the official weigh-in, which was "exhaustive", but she says she "felt very well with great cardio".

Last week, Josh Barnett stated through his Myspace profile that the failure to make weight was disrespectful from Cyborg and the Brazilian took advantage to respond the American heavyweight:

“I have nothing to say. I always was professional. When I fought his athlete I made the weight easily. This time I had some problems but I believe what he thinks about me has no connection with my weight and is instead because I put one more win from his team inside my pocket.”

Commenting on the highly-anticipated future match between her and Gina Carano, Santos said there is no bad blood.

“I’m training so much. In fact I don’t have nothing against Gina Carano. I wanted to face her because she held the EliteXC belt but now I fight anyone who Strikeforce put in front of me. I will keep training with the same seriousness.”

The world of MMA was shocked last week with the departure of the main-coach of Chute Boxe, Rafael Cordeiro, who trained the team from Curitiba over twenty years:

“I was very sad, for I started my training with him. I will miss him a lot. God knows what he does and sometimes bad things take place for our own good, and only in the end we will know.”
