As most of you know, Serra has dropped out of the fight due to a back injury. I found out and was told that I get to basically pick my opponent. The UFC had called some welterweights, some said they wouldn’t take the fight; but ultimately I got to choose and I chose Georges St. Pierre. I asked to fight GSP.
I think there are a few things that will be in my favor in doing this. I get to fight in Vegas, what I consider my home fighting area, NOT Canada. I don’t think it’s a big deal to switch an opponent over a month out, it’s just not a concern for me. Before I was fighting a guy holding the belt, now I’m fighting a guy that I consider number two in the world. Anyone who thinks this fight will be like the second fight with GSP will be shown wrong on December 29th. THIS IS MY FIGHT!

WAR GSP!!
anyway, i think no matter what happens we're going to see hughes v. serra as soon as his back is healed because of their rivalry and obvious dislike for each other that's been hyped by them coaching opposite teams on TUF.
reason #1 : give the people what they want, and even though TUF may be slightly decreasing in popularity with the people who have been around before TUF, or lost a lot of interest after "the comeback" season, TUF is still bringing in new fans with each episode. reality TV is a great platform in this day and age. and unless serra takes longer than 6 months or so to be ready to fight i predict they'll give the fight for that reason if no other.
reason #2 : hughes beat GSP. GSP beat hughes. serra beat GSP. GSP wins, he gets a title shot, beats serra*, and then we see serra v. hughes as a non-title bout. *if* (boo!) hughes wins, then yeah...
*and on the (imho) miniscule chance serra beats GSP again... well, i'll cry, and hughes will get the next title shot - i'd bet even without having to do one fight to "work his way back up", unless hughes chooses to.
once again, WAR GSP!
