Tibau: "Dehydration makes me stronger"

Postby Educr1 » Fri Oct 02, 2009 2:00 pm

ImageGleison Tibau (19-6) is under an intense pace of preparation for his upcoming fight versus Josh Neer at UFC 104, on October 24th. And Tibau believes the conditioning aspect of the training will make the difference to the victory.

“I’m training too hard. I’ve been stressing the physical part what will probably be decisive because I’m training for more time than my adversary. The strategy is fall over him” said the UFC lightweight fighter to Brasil Combate’s Vitor Targueta.

The American Top Team prospect searches to rebound from the loss to Melvin Guillard, his latest performance what created lots of discussions because of the controversial result in favor of the American fighter.

“I can’t understand that outcome until today. All the media pointed me as the winner, the audience and even Melvin excused with me after the fight. I fight at UFC to get the title so if Guillard comes up again on my way it will be a good opportunity to change that result. The best is to submit or knock out avoiding the judges decision. I don’t trust them anymore”.

Tibau is known as the athlete who puts on more weight from the wheigh-in until the fight. It’s surprising to hear from him how much he weighs at the fight, since he fights at the lightweight class.

“Yes, it’s true. They already talked about put it in the guiness book” said smiling. “I generally walk around 84Kg”. (185Lbs)

Recently, Thiago Silva – ATT teammate – afirmmed it is unnecessary and harmful the process of losing and gaining weight before the fights. Gleison said the bottom line is he fights stronger than the opponent.

“Each athlete has his own way to preparing for the fight. I respect all opinions. But in my case, it’s a natural work and I feel OK to dehydrate and recover later on. The most difficult part is the sacrifice to losing weight because the liquids of the body are escarce. On the other hand the benefits are uncountable because I come to fight stronger than the enemy”.

UFC 104 will be headlined by Lyoto Machida and Mauricio Shogun on October 24th. Stay tunned for more info about the event and the fighters set to perform in the show.
