10 Questions With Brad Pickett (by Darrick Patrick)

Brad "One Punch" Pickett is a professional mixed martial artist who has appeared in organizations such as Cage Rage, Ultimate Challenge UK, Bodog Fight, FX3, House Of Pain, K-1 HERO's, Intense Fighting, and Absolute Fighting Championships. At the time of this interview, his next scheduled match is against Kyle Dietz in World Extreme Cagefighting at WEC 45: Cerrone vs. Ratcliff on December 19th, 2009.

Darrick: What was the journey that led you to professional mixed martial arts competition?

Brad: I played football (soccer) at a high level when I was younger and I wanted to get more fit, so I took up boxing. I did that for two years, then I had a bad knee injury and had to give it all up. After four years though, a mate of mine called Del Edwards told me about MMA and I decided to give it a try. I fell in love with it and haven't looked back since.

Darrick: Who are some of the people that greatly influenced you while growing up?

Brad: That would have to be my family. I had an older mum and dad, so I was brought up the old-fashioned way. My uncle was also an influence as he was a bare-knuckle fighter, so I guess that's where I get it from.

Darrick: What brings you the most fulfillment out of martial arts?

Brad: It has to be winning in competition. There is no better feeling.

Darrick: Your next scheduled match is against Kyle Dietz on December 19th. What are your thoughts about this upcoming fight?

Brad: I'm looking forward to this one. I have been training very hard for this fight and I feel that I will be very strong going down a weight class to 135 pounds, since I felt stronger than the guys I was fighting at 145 pounds.

Darrick: Do you have any words of advice for other individuals looking to train in MMA?

Brad: Just find out where your local gym is, head straight down there and train hard. The more you train, the better you will become. Warriors are not born, they are trained.

Darrick: Who are a few of the people in the sport that you highly respect?

Brad: Mike Brown is a very good friend of mine and has helped me so much in my career. I also have a lot of respect for my coaches, Mickey Papas and Gray Cornwall.

Darrick: Outside of mixed martial arts, what are your other interests?

Brad: I love football (soccer) and playing computer games all day.

Darrick: Tell us something about you that most people don't know.

Brad: I don't like witches, they scare the shit out of me. And yes, I know they're not real.

Darrick: What is your oldest memory?

Brad: The earliest I can remember is being a kid with my brother at Christmas. Good times.

Darrick: If you were the last person alive on Earth, what do you think you'd do to entertain yourself?

Brad: I'd learn to talk to animals like in The Jungle Book cartoon.
