In anticipation of its upcoming release of "EA Sports MMA," EA Sports' first mixed-martial-arts videogame title, the gamemaker today released a preview video containing actual gameplay footage.
Some of the notable fighters (and playable characters) featured include Cung Le, Scott Smith, Nick Diaz, Bobby Lashley, Brett Rogers and Jeff Monson.
Additionally, viewers can see the various fighting surfaces, which include a Strikeforce cage, DREAM roped ring and others.
"EA Sports MMA," available on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms, is expected to be released in late summer as a rival to THQ's "UFC Undisputed" title, which follows up its successful and award-winning 2009 version with an updated 2010 installment on May 19.
The UFC's title has already sold 3.5 million units, though EA Sports – which has produced dozens of bestselling titles – is going hard after the market.
"EA Sports MMA" features dozens of fighters from organizations such as Strikeforce, DREAM and World Victory Road/Sengoku (as well as some UFC fighters such as Randy Couture and Frank trigg). "Big" John McCarthy is featured as a referee, and broadcasters Mauro Ranallo and Frank Shamrock provide commentary.
In addition to the above fighters, other competitors confirmed for the game include Tyron Woodley, Shinya Aoki, Hidehiko Yoshida, Luke Rockhold, Gilbert Melendez, Robbie Lawler, Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza, Matt Lindland, Josh Thomson, Nick Thompson, Jake Shields, Shamrock, Fedor Emelianenko, Renato "Babalu" Sobral, Gegard Mousasi, Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal, Jason "Mayhem" Miller, Tim Kennedy, Jay Hieron, Dan Henderson and others.
