10 Questions With James Terry (by Darrick Patrick)

James Terry is a professional mixed martial artist who has competed in organizations such as Strikeforce, Warrior Cup, and Cage Combat Fighting Championships events Mayhem, Undefeated, Throwdown at the Pavilion, Judgement Day, and Total Elimination. At the time of this interview, his most recent match was against Tarec Saffiedine in Strikeforce at ShoMMA 6: Kaufman vs. Hashi on February 26th, 2010.

Darrick: How did you end up competing professionally in mixed martial arts?

James: I started wrestling at the age of five, so the natural progression of my athletic career was to start fighting in MMA after college.

Darrick: Do you have any words of advice for other individuals looking to train in MMA?

James: Mixed martial arts takes a lot of discipline, so train hard and diet. Don't get off track and make sure to stay dedicated in order to stay healthy and as injury-free as possible.

Darrick: Who is someone in the sport that you highly respect?

James: Cung Le has an incredible work ethic and even at his high status he remains down-to-earth.

Darrick: Your most recent match was against Tarec Saffiedine on February 26th. Both of your hands were injured in the fight. What are the details with that and when can we possibly expect to see you again?

James: I fractured my right hand in the first round and my left thumb in the third round. I just recently had surgery on my right hand to correct the main problem and hopefully I'll be back by June.

Darrick: What brings you the most fulfillment out of martial arts?

James: Inspiring others to lead an active lifestyle is very fulfilling to me.

Darrick: Who are some of the people that greatly influenced you while growing up?

James: My wrestling coaches and my parents.

Darrick: Outside of MMA, what are your other interests?

James: I like hiking, snowboarding, and spending time with my girlfriend and family. I also enjoy playing video games online such as Halo, Call of Duty, etc.

Darrick: Tell us something about you that most people don't know.

James: I was born in Alaska and lived in the middle of nowhere for a good amount of time. My family had to fly to get food, clothes, and other supplies. Good thing my dad is a pilot.

Darrick: What is your oldest memory?

James: My first memory is buying my childhood dog Poppy. She was born in Kodiak, Alaska which is the same place where I was born. She was a yellow Labrador Retriever and was the best dog ever. She died when I was in eigth grade and that was one of the worst days of my life. I really loved that dog.

Darrick: If you were stuck in a bomb shelter for the rest of your life, what three items would you take in with you besides food and water?

James: My Xbox, a heavy bag, and my girlfriend. Even though I would never consider my girlfriend an "item", I would need her to survive.
