The Z-man, the Red Scorpion, Sefo, and more top K-1 fighters are getting ready for touch down in Bucharest for the East Europe GP!
K-1 lands in Romania for the first time ever!
The details for the upcoming East Europe GP have finally been released! K-1's popularity has been picking up steam thanks to Romanian fighters Daniel Ghita and Catalin Morosanu. Now the champion of Eastern Europe will be decided in a one-day tournament - a champion who will then compete in the Top 16 tournament later in the year. Let's look at some of the matchups.
After a disappointing performance against Badr Hari, Belarus fighter Alexey "Red Scorpion" Ignashov was told by K-1 Event Producer to prove himself in a tournament. His opponent is newcomer Mindaugas Sakalauskas who has just come off a win at the Lithuanian tournament. Will the 25-year old make a name for himself or will the Scorpion get his sting back?
Other first round bouts include popular self-proclaimed "Son of Dracula" Sebastian Ciobanu who will be fighting Estonian Daniil Sapljoshin who recently won his way to the winner's circle in the Poland elimination with 3 wins - 2 of which were knockouts.
Recently in a slump, Samoan-American puncher Mighty Mo will have to bring it when he faces Czech fighter Roman Kleibl. Will we see the famous Samoan Hook? Or is Mo no longer Mighty? Sergii Lashchenko, who intrigued fans with his ambition to "make money fighting and raise pigeons" will be facing down the French "Black Butterfly" Freddy Kemayo. Which of these top-level fighters will take wing on the 21st? Only the two-fisted gods of sport fighting know who will walk away with the East Europe GP crown and a chance to aim for the whole enchilada!
In addition, to the tournament are five Superfight exhibition matches! The theme of the Superfights seem to be K-1 big names versus hometown heroes. Ionut Iftimoaie (Romania) vs. the legendary Ray Sefo, Catalin Morosanu (Romania) vs. up-and-coming star Errol Zimmerman, Las Vegas hero Carter Williams vs. Raul Catinas (Romania), William Sriyapai (U.S.A.) vs. Halim Issaoui (Holland) in a 75-kilo match, and Mihai Barbu (Romania) vs. Philippe Salmon (France) in a 70-kilo match.
Will heroes recapture days of former glory, or will new shining stars blaze across the firmament? Only time will tell as anything can happen in K-1!
