Taking a short haul to St. Petersburg, Russia, one of the UK's more popular welterweights, Team Trojan's Che Mills, is riding high on a two-fight win streak headed into his bout against Magomed ‘The Eagle’ Shikshabekov on October 28th at M-1 Challenge XXI. With a decisive KO victory over Manuel Garcia at only nine seconds in and a three-round unanimous decision war against Jake Hecht, Mills feels ready to snap ‘The Eagle’s’ perfect 12-0 record; handing the Russian prospect his first taste of defeat and marking his return to the form that had Mills marked as one of the most dangerous fighters out of the UK.
The quiet Gloucester man and former Cage Rage Champion, Che Mills has defeated some of Britain's best, including two wins over current DREAM champion Marius Zaromskis and knows where he wants to take this fight. "It's no secret that I like to stand-up and keep the fight on its feet," says Mills, adding, "I won't panic if it goes to the floor obviously as I train all aspects of my game but I prefer to strike. I respect Shikshabekov... but I will win this fight by knock-out. Thank you to M-1 for setting up this fight!"
Che Mills began martial arts at the age of 19 and has certainly achieved a high profile on the domestic and international MMA scene by thrashing some of the best fighters in the country. Mill’s most notable introduction to the North American fan base stems from his participation on the UFC’s The Ultimate Fighter season 9 where he was ousted by the eventual season winner, James Wilkes.
As a marquee bout on a stellar card, Mills will look to utilize his lightning quick striking and surgeon’s precision to keep The Eagle at bay; should the exchange be taken to the canvas, expect Mills to maintain composure and exercise his surprising and deceivingly strong ground skills to neutralize Shikshabekov’s assaults.
Regardless of the outcome, the showdown is set to be a barnburner between two hugely talented and multi-dimensional welterweight challengers who are hungry for the finish.
