Sengoku Raiden Championships 15 - Live Results & More!
Sengoku Raiden Championship 15 Fight Card:
Hiroshi Izumi vs. James Zikic via Decision - Split (2-1)
- RD. 1 - A right cross by Zikic draws blood from above Izumi's right eye and the doctor will check it......fight resumes, Zikic looks to land the left hook on the cut, Izumi misses a throw and Zikic lands the left jab continuously to the right bleeding eye of Izumi. izumi gets the single leg after eating a right hook, Izumi works from half guard, wrist control and they both exchange minimal strikes as the round ends with Izumi kicking his legs.
- RD. 2 - Zikic using his boxing experience to control the second round so far, Izumi misses a rush takedown attempt and he is bleeding again from the left jabs of Zikic. Another bullrush by Izumi but Zikic defends it again and continues to pepper the face Izumi with jabs and combos. Right overhand attempts by Izumi but to no avail.
- RD. 3 - Izumi needs a finish, more boxing from Zikic and Izumi is not following the gameplan so far for a Judo Olympic Medalist. Izumi moves in but Zikic pushes him off and lands more jabs. Izumi gets the single leg takedown but Zikic pops right back up. Another bullrush by Izumi yields him nothing but a few left jabs that his face takes. Izumi moves in again and finally secures the body lock and takes Zikic down. GNP from Izumi and he takes side control after both fighters exchange strikes. The fights ends with a skirmish and both fighters standing.
Kazunori Yokota vs. Brian Cobb via Decision - Split Draw (2-1)
- Cobb forfeited 30% of his fighter purse for not making weight.
- RD. 1 - Yokota catches a leg kick by Cobb but nearly gets caught in a choke as they go to the ground. Back standing, more leg kicks by both fighters, Cobb shoots and takes Yokota's back. Knees from Cobb to the head, Yokota stands, knees from Cobb standing and its back to the canvas with Cobb in back control. Yokota reverses to Cobb's guard, Cobb rolls and escapes, back to the feet, Yokota lands a few strikes but Cobb takes him down again. Yokota gets up and gets his takedown but Cobb reverses as the round ends.
- RD. 2 - Yokota comes out aggressive, Cobb throws him down and they stand up. Cobb pulls guard, gives up his back, minimal GNP from Yokota. Cobb stands and they meet in the center of the ring, left jab, flying knee by Yokota puts Cobb on his back in the corner, Yokota tries for mount but after a skirmish ends up in Cobb's guard. Cobb kicking from the bottom but Yokota wins the round based on aggressiveness and ground control.
- RD. 3 - Yokota landing precision strikes and pushes Cobb against the ropes but Cobb reverses and takes his back. They go to the ground, Yokota briefly escapes but Cobb takes him down and is choking him from the back with one arm. Yokota is mounted and the ref moves them to the center of the ring. Cobb takes his back and Yokota escapes and lands a combo but Cobb takes him down with another double leg. Yokota quickly up again with Cobb on his back. Cobb takes down, Yokota back up with a Cobb backpack. Tough fight to call but Cobb should win.
Maximo Blanco vs. Kiuma Kunioku via TKO (Strikes) Round 1 (4:26)
- RD. 1 - Flying knee by Blanco, Kunioku ties him up against the ropes...the ref breaks them for Kunioku punching outside the ropes...Blanco holds Kunioku against the ropes but he escapes, after little action from both, Blanco lands a 10 punch body combo. Kunioku responds with counter jabs and Blanco moves in again throwing strikes and remains aggressive as Kunioku misses a takedown. Left uppercut, Kunioki down, soccer kick by Blanco, Kunioki stands up, eats another left uppercut, Kunioki down and sevreal strikes rained down by Blaco........Game Over!
Yoshiaki Takahashi vs. Chang Seob Lee via Submission (Arm-lock) Round 1 (2:28)
- RD. 1 - Judo throw by Takahashi but Lee ends up on his back and lands several blows to the back of the head.....ref breaks them up, warns Lee.....fight resumes, after some exchanges of strikes, Takahashi gets a takedown, moves to side control and hammerfists Lee followed by arm-lock submission - tapout.
INTERMISSION
* "Battle for the Soul" - Sengoku Raiden Championships 16 announced for December 30th.
SRC Welterweight Grand Prix 2010 Semifinals (3 X 5 Minutes):
- Nakamura and Enomoto advance to the SRC Welterweight Grand Prix 2010 Finals.
Keitaro Nakamura vs. Takuya Wada via Submission (Tapped due to Strikes) Round 1 (3:30)
- RD. 1 - Wada looking to land leg kicks, Nakamura throwing strikes, Nakamura landing combos now and Wada ties him up against the ropes. Nakamura takes him down and gets side control, GNP from Nakamura, full cross position now. Wada can't defend the GNP and he taps due to strikes.
Taisuke Okuno vs. Yasubey Enomoto via Decision - Unanimous (3-0)
- RD. 1 - Boxing style striking for Okuno, Muay Thai from Enomoto and he avoids Okuno's strikes, grab the clinch and lands several knees. Okuno unfazed and counters with his own strike combo. Enomoto landing at a 2-1 pace so far, punches to the body by Enomoto put Okuno down but he can't capitalize and its back to the feet....kick to the junk by Enomoto.......fight resumes, Okuno more aggressive now but Enomoto is countering well. Six punch combo by Enomoto followed by more strikes and then a Muay Thai clinch with knees as the bell sounds.
- RD. 2 - Okuno keeps walking straight in and eating more counters and clinch strikes by Enomoto. Okuno's cheeks starting to swell from the punishment, combo by combo landing for Enomoto and Okuno finally lands a big left. Not swayed, Enomoto continues his precise counter striking and leg kicks. Left hook by Enomoto puts Okuno down, GNP and now standing leg kicks. The ref lets Okuno back up and another combo (Strikes and leg kicks) by Enomoto ends the frame.
- RD. 3 - Okuno continues to stalk Enomoto only to keep taking punishment and his face is busted. Thai clinch knees, RHK, strike combo from Enomoto and now he is throwing knees and strikes at Okuno's body. Okuno is bleeding and he must have concrete in his head with the shots he is taking. Enomoto may have hurt his hand because he is now slapping the face of Okuno or he is just taunting him. Either way this fight is over.
SRC Asia Bantamweight Tournament 2010 Quarterfinals (2 X 5 Minute rounds):
- Nakahara, Tamura, Shimizu & Inoue advance to the SRC Asia Bantamweight Tournament 2010 Semi-Finals.
Taiyo Nakahara vs. Shintaro Ishiwatari via Decision - Split Draw (2-1)
- RD. 1 - Both fighters throwing strikes and leg kicks and both fighters are landing. Nakahara winning the striking battle at the beginning but Ishiwatari is countering better and being more aggressive as the round continues. Nakahara goes on a combo spree that hurts Ishiwatari but a counter right hook drops Nakahara and he pounces in on Nakahara and lands several GNP strikes. Nakahara escapes and they are back to the stand up battle and another counter right by Ishiwatari drops Nakahara again. More GNP by Ishiwatari but Nakahari gets a leg and tries to kneebar Ishiwatari as the round ends.
- RD. 2 - More of the aggressive striking by both fighters and Nakahara gets a takedown after eating another right hook. Rubber guard and an escape by Ishiwatari, nothing but a stand-up battle with quantity by Nakahara and quality by Ishiwatari.....Ishiwatari cautioned for poking Nakahara in the eye....fight resumes, left nutz shot by Ishiwatari....Yellow Card for Ishiwatari, fight resumes, Nakahara comes out shooting and takes Ishiwatri down. Guillotine attempt by Ishiwatari and the final round bell rings.
Akitoshi Tamura vs. Shoko Sato via Decision - Split (2-1)
- The Ryogoku Kokugikan looks nearly empty.
- RD. 1 - Tamura gets the single leg, works from half guard, looking for submissions and Sato barely escapes the D'arce choke to get the fight back standing. Sato landing good combos, Tamura's left eye is swelled and they stop the fight for a doctor's check....fight resumes, Sato pulls guard, and Tamura works from it, Sato pulls an armbar as the round ends.
- RD. 2 - They exchange leg kicks, Tamura gets the takedown (Sato pulled guard), Tamura bleeding badly from his left eye, Doctor check time....the fight resumes, Tamura in Sato's guard, GNP by Tamura, upkick by Sato gives Tamura half guard. Not much action now, Tamura moves to side control, knees to head by Tamura, back to half guard and he smothers Sato but Sato nails Tamura with several upkicks as the fight ends.
Shunichi Shimizu vs. Wataru Takahashi via Decision - Unanimous (3-0)
- Looks like a tag-team match to start, as Shunichi brings his brother into the cage with him for the intros.
- RD. 1 - Shimizu missed an early lg lock and Takahashi ended up in his guard. Back standing, Shimizu gets a double leg and works from Takakashi's guard. Foot stomp from Shimizu and Takahashi gets his ankle but several kicks and strikes to the face convince Takahashi to give up his back. Round 1 - Shimizu
- RD. 2 - Shimizu gets another takedown and takes Takahashi's back again, body triangle, Takahashi escapes and throws GNP from Shimizu's guard until Shimizu gets back to his feet and a scissor takedown by Shimizu but Takahashi ends up in top control but is soon reversed as the fight ends.
Manabu Inoue vs. Jae Hyun So via Decision - Unanimous (3-0)
- RD. 1 - Inoue got an early takedown, used ground control and minimal GNP to easily take the first frame. Not a lot of action in that round.
- RD. 2 - Inoue gets another takedown, So gets a reversal and is briefly in top control until Inoue sweeps him. So escaped again, landed some good strikes, got a takedown and Inoue escaped. Some Striking exchanges and Inoue secures another takedown, knees to the head of So by Inoue. The fight ends with Inoue in side control.
* The Voice and Frank Trigg are the hosts this evening or early morning depending on your location, both dressed in Halloween costumes (Trigg is some kind of demon and Schiavello is a pumpkin head). The Voice is also reporting a Typhoon is hitting Tokyo and the weather outside blows.
