Gears of War 3 pre-orders hit 800,000

Gears of War 3 is a highly anticipated title, something which will certainly translate into millions of of copies sold, but the size of the anticipation is best measured in how many copies are sold before the game is even out — pre-orders.

According to sales trackers, Gears of War 3 is currently the most pre-ordered game, with pre-orders currently topping 800,000 copies, beating out inFamous 2, Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3. The 800,000 pre-orders are for the US only, which means the total amount of worldwide Gears of War 3 pre-orders could easily top 1 million.

However, that’s far from the record for most pre-ordered game: Halo Reach, which was pre-ordered 2.5 million times worldwide in 2010.

Gears of War 3 is scheduled for release on September 20, and will also be available in Limited Edition and Epic Edition.
