EPISODE 4 Results & Notes:
AL IAQUINTA EARNS SPLIT DECISION WIN OVER MYLES JURY IN FIRST SUDDEN-VICTORY ROUND OF THE SEASON
The Ultimate Fighter Live episode 4 – "All The Pressure" – aired Friday evening and saw Team Faber get on the board, now trailing Team Cruz 2-1, as their first overall pick – Al Iaquinta – secured a split decision win over Myles Jury.
With the win, Team Faber selected the next fight, which will pit Michael Chiesa against Jeremy Larsen on Episode 5, Friday, April 6 at 10 p.m. EST on FX.
Here’s what everyone had to say about the evening’s live fight:
UFC President Dana White:
“There were some exciting exchanges in the first and second round and I think the judges scored them perfectly. But when you go to a sudden-victory round it means you’re hanging in there by a thread. You need to go out there and kill it. I don’t think either guy went out there in that third round and looked like they wanted to win it. They just wanted it enough to win and just enough not to lose. Faber wanted that win bad. To finally regain control is big for him. They’re (Team Faber) back in the game - with a huge momentum shift.”
Al Iaquinta:
“I knew it wasn’t going straight to a decision and I had a feeling we were going to the sudden-victory round. To get the win is great! It’s crazy. It’s a whole new game now.
It was definitely a different routine getting ready for this fight. I’ve had the same guys helping me for every one of my pro fights. This team was great though and they did a good job getting me ready.”
Iaquinta’s Coach Urijah Faber:
“I feel great, especially for Al. These wins are really for the guys. This is Al’s dream and he fought his heart out. Jury is a guy with a great mentality and to beat a guy like that is awesome for Al’s resume. Hoping to keep the (Team Faber) streak alive. And it took a little pep out of Cruz’s step which is great!”
Myles Jury:
“I just feel like it’s a tough loss but it’s a great learning experience for me and I’ll be back better than ever. The decision is the way it is. I could sit here and say I won but that’s not how it came out. I’m going to go back and take a look at what I did and see how I can improve.”
Jury’s Coach Dominick Cruz:
“It was a tough close fight and a learning experience for Myles Jury but I’m proud of him because he never stopped fighting and he went for broke. And he made it through the training camp and that's always the hard part.
I like the pick for next week. I’m good with it because, what he doesn’t know is that Jeremy has a history of fighting solid wrestlers.”
Next week’s fighter Michael Chiesa:
“First and foremost, I want to congratulate Al and Myles on a great fight. I’m very thankful that Team Faber got the hammer back, cause that means now I can do what I came here to do and that’s to put on a show. Training has been great. I’m feeling healthy. I’m in good shape and all these good fights have been amping me up and getting me ready to scrap.”
Next week’s fighter Jeremy Larsen:
“I feel fantastic. Super excited. I was talking to Dominick (Cruz), telling him I wanted to fight next anyway. Some guys like to finish fight’s, I like three-round wars. So tune-in and get ready for some great action.

EPISODE 5 Results & Notes:
MICHAEL CHIESA EARNS UNANIMOUS DECISION WIN OVER JEREMY LARSEN IN EMOTIONAL VICTORY
The Ultimate Fighter Live episode 5 – "That Miserable Feeling" – aired Friday evening and saw Team Faber nab another win to even the score at two all, as Spokane native Michael Chiesa defeated Tucson’s Jeremy Larsen by unanimous decision.
Friday marked the first fight for Chiesa following the tragic loss of his father earlier this season. His quest of honoring his father's dream and becoming the next Ultimate Fighter continues as he moves into the quarterfinals along with previous winners: James Vick, Justin Lawrence and Al Iaquinta.
With the win, Team Faber selected the next fight, which will pit Joe Proctor against Chris Tickle on Episode 6, Friday, April 13 at 10 PM EST on FX.
Here’s what everyone had to say about the evening’s live fight:
UFC President Dana White:
“Interesting fight tonight. Obviously the reason this fight was picked was that Chiesa was a better wrestler than Larsen and it showed in the first round. Chiesa was controlling him. But what I saw in this fight today was that Chiesa has some real big adjustments to make. He was a 4-1 favorite in this fight and he didn’t look like a favorite tonight.
“Chiesa lost his dad while he was here and I know the win meant a lot to him. This competition is tough mentally, physically and emotionally without having to deal with anything else like that. He has to focus and train hard over the next few though, give it everything he’s got, so he can move on and win this for his dad.”
Michael Chiesa:
“This is dedicated to my mom, Teresa Chiesa. It definitely wasn’t my best performance but I know what things I need to change and do better. Most importantly, I need to manage my weight better and be more confident in all my skills. I promise I’ll be putting someone to sleep next time.”
Chiesa’s Coach Urijah Faber:
“I feel good. We knew there was going to be a mis-match with the wrestling in that fight and Chiesa came through with a smart tactile win. It was a little scary with the illegal knee but Chiesa got the job done. Looking forward to really improving on his stand-up in the next month. He has a ton of potential. Kind of weird that Larsen was so angry at me after the fight. He seems like an emotional guy. Not sure how that will work out in the future for him.
“Looking forward to this next week. Proctor is as solid as they get. It’s going to be a dangerous fight but we should definitely get the win.”
Jeremy Larsen:
“Tough guys don’t win fights. I felt like it should have went to the third and could have let the fighters decide instead of the judges. Sorry about the boring fight, it wasn’t boring on my end. I was trying to make it a fight not a wrestling match. Hopefully I get another shot to live my dream. Hopefully this isn’t it.”
Larsen’s Coach Dominick Cruz:
“Larsen and went out and stuck to the game plan and listened well. We lost the takedown war, which is the type of fight we prepared him for. It was about execution and Chiesa followed through a little better tonight.
“It’s a good fight. Tickle-Proctor is a good match-up. Tickle has got a lot of power in his hands, under-rated submissions and great takedown defense and I’m looking forward to watching and preparing him for a fun and competitive fight.”
Next week’s fighter Joe Proctor:
“I’m very excited. I’m ready. I think it’s a great match-up. I think my boxing is way better, my jiu-jitsu is way better. Tickle hits hard but so does every other fighter and I’m here to get my job done and move on into the quarterfinals. I’ve learned a lot from Faber over the last couple of weeks. They’ve prepared me very well for this fight and I’m ready.”
Next week’s fighter Chris Tickle:
“I knew that that was the match-up they would make and I feel very confident in the match-up and will be victorious. For the last four weeks, Dom and the staff busted our ass to get us in shape and I feel 100% confident in my coaches and my cardio for this fight. I’m ready to bang and get a W. I’m 100% healthy and injury free and can’t wait for next week.”

EPISODE 6 Results & Notes:
TEAM FABER TAKES THE LEAD AS JOE PROCTOR SUBMITS CHRIS TICKLE
The Ultimate Fighter Live episode 6 – "Dog With No Bark" – aired Friday evening and saw Team Faber continue to roll - right into the leaders spot - as they recorded their third consecutive win and took a 3-2 lead over Team Cruz.
Massachusetts native Joe Proctor came away with the win as he submitted resident badboy Chris Tickle by rear naked choke at 4:42 of the 1st round.
With the win, Team Faber selected the next fight, which will pit John Cofer against Vinc Pichel on Episode 7, Friday, April 20 at 10:00 PM EST on FX.
Here’s what everyone had to say about the evening’s live fight:
UFC President Dana White:
“Great finish! In the first round, I actually had Tickle picking him apart. He hit Proctor with some big shots and Proctor ate some solid punches. Then, Tickle goes down and Proctor took his back, put his hooks in and secured that choke.
“I thought Joe looked good but it looks like he’s going to need a lot of stand-up work. If he faces a guy in this competition that hasbetter stand-up and better Jiu Jitsu, he’s in trouble.”
Joe Proctor:
“Tickle’s tough. I didn’t want to come in and extend and get caught with something stupid. We had a good game plan to weather the storm for the first half and if a takedown was there, take it. I took it and I finished my fight.”
Proctor’s Coach Urijah Faber:
“I’m excited. These guys have been working their butts off. The goal with Proctor was to weather the storm. Tickle comes out firing with big punches, we knew that going in. Reckless abandonment. Proctor is a little slower, more poised and is a stud. We told him he had to make it through the two-and-a-half minute mark, and after that it’s your fight.
“All these match-ups coming up are going to be pretty tough. So we went with a match-up that pitted two guys with different styles. Pichel is a dangerous fighter for sure. He’s got a real strong mental game, I can tell by talking to him. Cofer’s really strong also. He’s a south paw and he’s a wrestler and that’s Pichel’s weakness.”
Chris Tickle:
“I stuck to my game plan. I knew he was going to try and wrestle and take me down. I heard my corner telling me to get away from the cage. Ithought I was far enough away - but I wasn’t. I made a mistake and didn’t listen to my corner well enough and he capitalized on it. It sucks. I was winning the fight and working hard. I’m so sorry. I put all this work and this effort coming into this fight and I failed. I’m still learning and hopefully next time I’ll get the W.”
Tickle’s Coach Dominick Cruz:
“I’m pissed off because Tickle shouldn’t have lost that fight. He was winning. He was beating the hell out of the dude. It comes down to practice. It comes down to what you do in practice, is what you do in a fight. When you take that 15 seconds off in practice, you take that 15 seconds off in a fight. That 15 seconds cost him the fight.
“That’s exactly the match I was going to choose after I thought we were going to win tonight. So, I’m happy with it. Pichel is an animal. Pichel listens. Pichel never quits. He never gets tired and he’s got a huge opportunity in front of him and he’s going to seize the opportunity.”
Next week’s fighter John Cofer:
“I can't wait for next week. I’m not taking this fight lightly at all. I want to go in there and get the win. I’m looking for Team Faber to keep winning."
Next week’s fighter Vinc Pichel:
“I’m pumped. I’m going to beat Cofer bad, you guys might feel sorry for him after what I am going to do to him. He is going to regret taking the fight. I’m going to do what I do best, kick his ass."

THE ULTIMATE FIGHTER LIVE ON FX CONTINUES WITH “WEATHER THE STORM”
TEAM FABER’S JOHN COFER vs. TEAM CRUZ’S VINC PICHEL
Friday, April 20, LIVE on FX at 10 p.m. ET/PT
The Ultimate Fighter Live on FX continues tomorrow/Friday, live on FX at 10:00 PM EST when Team Faber’s John Cofer (7-1), of Hull, Ga., takes on Team Cruz’s Vinc Pichel (7-0), of Sherman Oaks, Calif., for a spot in the quarterfinals.
With Team Faber’s Joe Proctor notching a victory over Team Cruz’s Chris Tickle last week, Faber’s squad now leads that of his bitter rival 3-2. Down 0-2 at one point, Team Faber has won three in a row.
Preview of the upcoming “Weather the Storm” episode:
“Cruz gives Chris Tickle an earful following his loss. After Faber comes to his defense, the coaches get into a heated exchange. With the tensions at the house taking a toll on him, Andy Ogle has an emotional breakdown during practice. Then Vinc Pichel and John Cofer face off in the sixth preliminary fight.”
Cofer and Pichel are looking to move into the quarterfinals along with previous winners James Vick, Justin Lawrence, Al Iaquinta, Michael Chiesa and Proctor.
The 13-week season will culminate with a championship fight and three-hour finale on June 1 at the Pearl Palms Concert Theater in Las Vegas. The coaches will then meet on July 7 at UFC 148, when Cruz defends his title against Faber in the rubber match of their epic rivalry.
JOHN COFER:
Through five weeks, it has been a season of streaks. Team Cruz won the first two, Team Faber the last three? What's the mood of your team, and how has it changed, etc?
“The mood throughout the season has been pretty good, even when we were down, we never felt like we were out. It is an individual sport but when your teammates win, it boosts moral. For the most part, I think we've done really well cohesively to stay positive.”
Do you feel pressure to keep the streak going?
“There's pressure, but it's not from wanting to keep a win streak going. There's pressure from wanting myself to move onto the next round. I also want to win to try and help my teammates get their next pick in the last two fights. So there's some pressure either way.”
What is your mood going into the fight and what do you have to do to win? Is it important just to win, or do you want to win impressively?
“I'm definitely happy to be fighting, I'm glad that my time is now. I'm confident and feel like it's my fight to win. I just have to fight, push the pace, not get desperate, be patient and if there's an opportunity to finish him with a [submission] or if I end up getting a knockout, great. If not, then I just need to continue to push that pace through the 10 minutes.”
How difficult is it to sit and watch during the weeks you weren't fighting? Is it a relief to actually be fighting?
“I wouldn't really say it was difficult to sit and watch. There's always that monkey on your back to get out there and do it yourself. I'm sure once you actually go in there and win it's actually quite a relief. I'm anticipating having that relief!”
Is there anything that's happened in the first five weeks that's surprised you?
“Not really [laugh]. I'm really enjoying my time here. It's definitely a blessing and I'm thankful to have this opportunity. That doesn't mean I don't miss home and I'm not ready to go home but at the same time I'm here to do work and I'm here for a purpose. I'm thankful not just to be here but to have this opportunity, and hopefully I'll make the best of it.”
VINC PICHEL:
Through five weeks, it has been a season of streaks. Team Cruz won the first two, Team Faber the last three? What's the mood of your team, and how has it changed, etc?
“The mood on our team hasn't really changed too much. We're definitely a little bummed that we lost the last three, but in fighting you win some and you lose some. We're not dwelling on it; we're looking ahead and focusing on the next fight. It's one fight at a time. It does bother us but we're not letting it drag us down. We're concentrating on our training and what we have to do to get the hammer back.”
Do you feel pressure to reverse the trend?
“Enormous pressure [laugh]. We had it in our minds that we were going to sweep these guys. Then they came back and won the last three fights and surprised the hell out of us. You know in the back of your head that you could lose a fight, it's always there. It actually happening though kind of 'kicks you in the pants' you could say. There is a lot of pressure on me to get the hammer back and to win a fight for us. I'm trying not to think about it and just to think about my fight that's ahead of me.”
What is your mood going into the fight and what do you have to do to win? Is it important just to win, or do you want to win impressively?
“I'm extremely focused. I feel really good. What I have to do to win is honestly just finish him, either knock him out or submit him. I'm not looking to let the judges decide my fate, I never have and I never will. I'm going to go out there and win or get knocked out trying. That's the way I see it.”
How difficult is it to sit and watch during the weeks you weren't fighting? Is it a relief to actually be fighting?
“It's very difficult to sit and watch people fight. You watch your teammates fight and you see things while they're fighting that you don't see when you're in there. That's why you have coaches, because they see what you don't. That's why they're in the corner yelling stuff at you because they see what's open. I feel the same way when I'm watching my teammates. When they win, it's great and you're winning with them. When they lose, you feel like crap because you lose with them. It feels good and it hurts at the same time.”
Is there anything that's happened in the first five weeks that's surprised you?
“What I have been surprised about is the pranks. There hasn't been that many… yet. Just little stuff like that. It has been a great experience and I can't wait to add a win to that.”

EPISODE 7 Results & Notes:
SERIES TIED ONCE AGAIN AS VINC PICHEL; SUBMITS JOHN COFER
The Ultimate Fighter Live episode 7 – ‘Weather the Storm’ – aired Friday evening and saw Team Cruz snap a three fight losing streak to clinch their third win and even the score at three-all, as Simi Valley’s Vinc Pichel defeated Athens, Georgia native John Cofer.
‘From Hell Pichel’ blazed into the sudden victory round, submitting the southern gentleman after 44 seconds with an arm triangle. He now moves into the quarterfinals along with previous winners: James Vick, Justin Lawrence, Al Iaquinta, Michael Chiesa and Joe Proctor.
With the win, Team Cruz selected the next fight, which will pit Sam Sicilia against Chris Saunders on Episode 8, Friday, April 27 at 10p.m. ET / PT on FX.
Here’s what everyone had to say about the evening’s live fight:
UFC President Dana White:
“The fight that happened tonight showed me that both of these guys want to be here and they want it bad. Those guys never stopped battling, it was an absolute war and that is what I love to see! The judges called it right tonight. I gave the first round to Cofer and the second round to Pichel. It needed the sudden victory round and these guys didn’t disappoint. I’m so happy with both guys’ performance.”
Vinc Pichel:
“I feel like I am on top of Mount Everest right now, sucking in beautiful air. Honestly I feel so much better about that type of win, I wouldn’t have wanted it to be an easy one-sided battle. I feel like a have a bigger sense of accomplishment winning the way I did. I got hit in that fight more than I have in my whole pro career – and I didn’t like it. Now I need to rest-up, heal, and then when it comes time to fight, I’ll be there, I’ll be ready.”
Pichel’s Coach Dominick Cruz:
“I’m really proud of Pichel. He listened flawlessly. He dug deep and came out on top. He showed how bad he wants this competition in that fight. That’s the type of fight that will prepare him for his bright future in the UFC.
“I chose Sicilia/Saunders because I believe Sicilia’s wrestling and pace can give Saunders a lot of trouble. The importance of this fight is letting Sam fight like Sam.”
John Cofer:
“Hats off to Vinc Pichel. Hell of a fighter. Sorry I couldn’t come through. I just gotta keep working. This experience is only making me stronger. I’m down but not out. Thanks to all of those that support.”
Cofer’s Coach Urijah Faber:
“I was inspired after that fight. I feel like the big difference was just a mental decision that Pichel made. He brought the intensity to the next level. You can’t teach that. I’m proud of Cofer. He has a great future in the sport.”
“[Sicilia vs Saunders] was the fight we were going to pick. Saunders has potential to beat anybody, we just need to get his head in the right spot and make sure he has his A-game ready.”
Next week’s fighter Sam Sicilia:
“I feel awesome. I’ve been waiting for this. I’m ready to perform. I’ve taken a lot of steps since I’ve been here and now I’m ready to put it on display against a very tough opponent. As always, I’ll fight faithful and fearless. I can’t promise a victory but I can promise a brutal fight.”
Next week’s fighter Chris Saunders:
“I’m excited. I’ve been waiting for this for a long time. I’m geared and ready to go. I feel strong and healthy. I would like to thank God because without him none of this would be possible. Now I feel like it’s truly my time and I’m excited for this.”

EPISODE 8 Results & Notes:
Team Faber takes a 4-3 lead with Saunders’ split decision win over Sicilia
The Ultimate Fighter Live episode 8 – ‘The Lion’s Den’ – aired Friday evening and saw Team Faber take the lead once more as Chris Saunders nabbed a split decision win over Sam Sicilia. They now lead the series 4-3.
With the win, the final qualifying fight of the series was announced and will pit Andy Ogle against Michael Rio on Episode 9, Friday, May 4 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FX.
The winner of this final fight will join James Vick, Justin Lawrence, Al Iaquinta, Michael Chiesa, Joe Proctor and Saunders in the quarterfinals, which begin Friday, May 11.
Here’s what everyone had to say about the evening’s live fight:
UFC President Dana White:
“There’s no doubt Saunders won that first round but I thought Sicilia had the second round. He was dropping huge bombs and was all over Saunders. Everyone but the judges believed this should have gone to a third round. I praise the judges when they do a good job and I rip the judges when they get it wrong. They got it wrong tonight. Both guys fought like hell and deserved a third round."
"This was a huge upset. Saunders was picked last and went out there and won against the no.2 guy. We’ve seen great back to back fights in the last two weeks. All these guys are going out there and blowing it away.”
Sam Sicilia:
“I definitely didn’t feel like I lost, but I definitely didn’t feel like I was winning either. I was in a scrap and I felt like a cartoon dust ball with legs and arms kicking out. I was blessed with a battle. My path and purpose led me to Chris Saunders and he was the better man tonight according to the judges.”
Sicilia’s Coach Dominick Cruz:
“I think it should have gone to a third round, definitely. But that’s part of the game. Sam fought from beginning to end and I have nothing but respect for the show that he put on tonight. I’m also proud of the camp that he has put in so far and that I know he will continue.”
“I like the match-up coming up. Rio has outstanding wrestling and great ground control along with submissions. Ogle’s a tough cookie but I think Rio’s size and control will win us this fight.”
Chris Saunders:
“I feel good. I’m very excited and happy that I went out there and had a good performance for my team and the fans. The fight went how I planned. I knew that I had to go out there and use good footwork and that my Thai boxing skills would help give me the victory. I have to give all the credit to God though because without him none of this would be possible.”
Saunder’s Coach Urijah Faber:
“I’m super proud of Saunders, this whole thing has been about building his confidence. He has the skill to beat anybody on the show. He has a lot of natural talent and years of experience, now it’s just about bringing his a-game.”
“Andy Ogle is probably on the fastest learning curve on the team. He’s dangerous both standing and on the ground and he’s got a great attitude.”
Next week’s fighter Michael Rio:
“WOW!!!! It’s about time. Get ready for a war between me and Andy Ogle cause we will make fight of the season!”
Next week’s fighter Andy Ogle:
“The wait is finally over! I’m not expecting anything other than a war. It’s been a long time coming and I’m excited that I finally get to go in there and do my thing. We’re here to fight and when you're not the next pick, it tears at you. Now that it’s my turn, I’m going out there and not leaving anything behind.”
