Re: UFC on FX 5: Browne vs. Bigfoot - Card Updates
In the wake of the UFC's announcement of Browne vs. Bigfoot, a handful of fights have been verbally agreed to for the October 5 event.
The headlining heavyweights won't be the only big guys going to work -- heavyweight sluggers Rob Broughton and Matt Mitrione will finally meet after their original bout, slated for UFC on FOX this weekend, was scrapped due to visa red tape.
At welterweight, TUF 13's Justin "Fast Eddy" Edwards and seasoned veteran Josh "The Dentist" Neer will meet in a submission specialist vs. TKO artist match-up.
Fans of ground wars -- and the crazy brawls that sometimes take place when two grappling specialists compete -- can look forward to the lightweight bout between BJJ black belt Carlo "Neo" Prater and powerful wrestler Marcus "The Prospect" LeVesseur.
Bart Palaszewski and Diego Nunes will fight at featherweight in a bout originally booked for Indianapolis, the original host city of the FX 5 event. Both men are long-time, well-rounded veterans who favor striking whil promises an exciting mix of similar styles.
With the first UFC flyweight champion about to be crowned, the new division is moving almost as fast as the athletes who compete in it. Joining the 125-pound ranks is Darren Uyenoyama, dropping from bantamweight to meet Louis Gaudinot. Both fighters are coming off career-best performances and looking to extend their hot streaks.
Another fighter who's found success at flyweight, TUF 14 winner John Dodson, will welcome one of the world's top divisional fighters to the UFC when he takes on 14-1 Jussier Formiga.

Re: UFC on FX 5: Browne vs. Bigfoot - Card Updates
A five-round heavyweight showdown between contenders Travis “Hapa” Browne and Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva will headline an exciting UFC card scheduled for Friday, Oct. 5 at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minn. The event will mark UFC’s first in Minneapolis since 2008, when UFC 87 broke the Target Center live gate record with a $2.25 million mark.
Additional fights include: The Ultimate Fighter season 14 winner John Dodson vs. highly touted flyweight Jussier Formiga; Matt Mitrione vs. Rob Broughton in heavyweight action; Josh Neer vs. Justin Edwards in a welterweight contest.
The main card will also air live on FX at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.
Unbeaten at 4-0-1 in his UFC career, the 30-year-old Browne has made an immediate impact in the heavyweight division thanks to his versatile and dangerous attack. Training alongside UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and under the guidance of renowned coach Greg Jackson in Albuquerque, N.M., the Hawaii native will face the sternest test of his career in Silva.
Owner of wins over the likes of former UFC champions Andrei Arlovski and Ricco Rodriguez, as well as former PRIDE star Fedor Emelianenko, the 32-year-old “Bigfoot” has 11 wins by knockout and three by submission. He’ll look to place himself in the title picture on Oct. 5 when he meets the hard-hitting Hawaiian.
“Travis Browne is undefeated in his career and wants to prove that he’s ready for a shot at the title,” UFC President Dana White said. “He’s got a tough test in front of him in ‘Bigfoot’ Silva, who’s beaten two former UFC champions and also finished Fedor. I’m excited to finally get back to Minneapolis and I’m confident this card is going to deliver for the fans at the Target Center!”

Re: UFC on FX 5: Browne vs. Bigfoot - Card Updates
While disappointed that they won't be fighting each other on September 1st, welterweights Jake Ellenberger and Jay Hieron have found a home for what was supposed to be UFC 151's main event, as they've been moved from the now cancelled card to October 5th's UFC on FX event in Minneapolis, MN.
UFC on FX 5 in Minneapolis -- a fight card made possible in part by Guy Fieri -- continues to build buzz with the addition of two bouts and a change to one. Verbal agreements are in for a scrap between two always-exciting lightweights, "Thugjitsu Master" Yves Edwards and Jeremy "Lil Heathen" Stephens.
With Louis Gaudinot out due to injury, top-ranked English flyweight Phil "Billy" Harris will take his place against Darren Uyenoyama. Plus, two of the welterweight division’s strongest wrestlers, Mike Pierce and Aaron "A-Train" Simpson, will test their immovable-object reputations against one another.
