Fuel TV Celebrates Brazil's UFC Legacy
Brazil and the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) go hand-in-hand, from Brazilian Royce Gracie winning the first-ever UFC tournament to the present day where Brazilians hold three of the seven World Championship belts. FUEL TV celebrates the South American country’s place in the UFC with Brazil Week beginning Monday, August 27 and ending with an all-day marathon of The Ultimate Fighter Brazil on Sunday, September 2 that culminates with the season finale at 10:00 PM ET.
Each day throughout Brazil Week, FUEL TV hosts Brazilian themed interstitials and classic UFC bouts with the country’s fighters such as Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva, Heavyweight Champion Junior dos Santos, and Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo. In addition, FUEL TV airs a number of original spots highlighting Brazilian legends and champions including Royce Gracie, Vitor Belfort, Wanderlei Silva, dos Santos and Anderson Silva.
“This is an exciting theme week for FUEL TV with so much Brazilian heritage and legacy throughout the UFC,” says Mike Feller, Vice President of Programming, FUEL TV. “We’re excited to feature these legends of the sport and highlight some of the greatest fighters to ever enter the octagon. This is just the first of many great theme weeks to come from our network, where we hope to offer viewers a fresh look at many different topics around the UFC.”
During the week, look for specific UFC Reloaded, UFC Unleashed and Best of Pride Fighting Championships episodes featuring top Brazilian fighters. In addition, FUEL TV premieres UFC Reloaded - UFC 147: SILVA vs. FRANKLIN II on Sunday, Sept. 2 (11:00 PM ET), featuring the UFC’s last venture to Brazil where Wanderlei Silva and former middleweight champion Rich Franklin faced off for the second time, as Silva sought to settle the score after his searing defeat in their first encounter at UFC 99.
FUEL TV’s extensive UFC coverage continues in the coming weeks with the live Weigh-in and Postfight shows for UFC 151: JONES VS. HENDERSON on Saturday, September 1; the live Weigh-in and Postfight shows for UFC 152: BENAVIDAZ VS. JOHNSON on Saturday, September 22; and the Weigh-in, Prefight, Fight Night, and Postfight shows for UFC ON FUEL TV: STRUVE VS. MIOCIC on September 29.
In this year, FUEL TV offers more UFC programming than any network, including live fights, weigh-ins, preliminary bouts, and pre- and postfight shows, and significant shoulder programming.
