Strikeforce Compensating Fighters for Cancelled Melendez vs. Healy Event

Cancelling Strikeforce’s Melendez vs. Healy hasn’t stirred quite the uproar that the UFC 151 cancellation did, but fighters and managers were still up in arms in the immediate aftermath of Sunday night’s announcement.
With no rescheduling of the event on the immediate horizon, it appears that Zuffa, the Strikeforce and UFC parent company, is taking care of the fighters to one degree or another.
When MMAWeekly.com tried to find out more about what Zuffa was doing for those athletes with cancelled Strikeforce bouts, most sources indicated that the fighters were being financially compensated for the cancellation. It is believed that most are receiving their show money, or the amount that is guaranteed each fighter just for showing up prepared to fight if the event had not been cancelled.
“I can’t state exact amounts, but the two Blackzilians on the card, Jorge Santiago and Yuri Villefort, are very pleased with how Zuffa looked after them in the wake of the Strikeforce event cancellation,” said their manager, Glenn Robinson.
