UFC 160: Velasquez vs. Silva II - Fight Card Updates

It's official: With a first-round TKO over previously undefeated Travis Browne and a knockout win over top contender Alistair Overeem, Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva has earned a title shot against UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez. That heavyweight championship bout will anchor UFC 160, to be held Memorial Day weekend in Las Vegas.

Plus, two of the top heavyweights in the world will settle their differences at the event as former Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair "The Reem" Overeem will take on former UFC heavyweight champion Junior "Cigano" Dos Santos.

Farther down in the weight divisions, fans will see a fantastic stylistic matchup as welterweights Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson and TUF season 7 winner Amir Sadollah do battle.

Verbal agreements are in for all three matchups.

UFC 160 was announced just one week ago, but the fight card is filling up fast. The latest addition is a light heavyweight contest between two 205-pounders that are trying to bust into the Top 5, Glover Teixeira and Ryan Bader. UFC officials announced the bout on Tuesday evening.

Three exciting new bouts have been announced for Las Vegas' annual summer kickoff event, taking place this year on Saturday, May 25. Welterweight Mike "Quicksand" Pyle will put his three-fight KO streak on the line against Iceland's undefeated Gunnar Nelson at UFC 160. Also at welterweight, fans will see a battle between newly-crowned Ultimate Fighters as TUF Smashes king Robert Whittaker will take on TUF 16 winner Colton Smith. "Lil' Heathen" Jeremy Stephens make his 145-pound debut against Estevan Payan in what could turn out to be a featherweight slugfest.

Alistair Overeem Injured, Out of UFC 160 Bout with JDS


According to sources close to Overeem, the heavyweight recently suffered an undisclosed injury while training, which will sideline him for four-to-five weeks. As a result, Overeem's camp recently informed the UFC that he will be unable to fight dos Santos at UFC 160 on May 25. Overeem is hoping to return to action against dos Santos in July, but as of right now, no decision has been made when he'll return and against who. Also, no word just yet on if dos Santos will remain on the UFC 160 card and fight someone else or wait for Overeem to return.

The fans wanted it, and now they’ll get it, as resurgent heavyweight contender Mark Hunt will follow up his knockout of Stefan Struve earlier this month with a UFC 160 bout against former heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos in Las Vegas on May 25th. The spot alongside dos Santos opened up when the Brazilian’s original foe, Alistair Overeem was forced out due to injury, and with fans clamoring to see the two knockout artists collide, Hunt and dos Santos have verbally agreed to meet in the co-main event underneath Cain Velasquez’ heavyweight title defense against Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva.

Ryan Bader has withdrawn from UFC 160 due to injury, and as a result, James Te Huna will take his place against Glover Teixeira on the May 25 card. UFC officials announced the change on Monday. UFC 160 takes place at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and is headlined by a heavyweight title clash between Cain Velasquez and Antonio Silva.
