No Jon Jones vs Glover Teixeira Super Bowl Weekend

Despite last week’s confirmation from UFC officials, light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and Glover Teixeira will not square off in the main event of UFC 169.

“Jones-Teixeira is not happening on Super Bowl [weekend],” UFC President Dana White said Monday on a media conference call. “That was never a done deal. It’s later in the year.”

White went on to say that the timing of the fight “didn’t work out” and that the UFC’s public relations team “jumped the gun” in announcing the match. The UFC has since noted on its official website that neither fighter is injured, and the 205-pound title bout “will likely occur sometime in March.”
