UFC 167: St-Pierre vs. Hendricks - Fight Card Updates

Postby keithlewis » Wed Aug 21, 2013 10:37 am

Welterweights Rory MacDonald and Robbie Lawler to meet at the UFC's 20th anniversary fight.

The old school meets the new breed at UFC 167 on November 16 in Las Vegas, as the resurgent "Ruthless" Robbie Lawler meets Canada's Rory "Ares" MacDonald. After returning to the UFC in 2013 following a more than eight year absence, Lawler has looked better than ever in knocking out Josh Koscheck and Bobby Voelker. The 24-year-old MacDonald is currently sporting a five-fight winning streak that includes wins over BJ Penn and Jake Ellenberger, but he has yet to face someone with the power of Iowa's Lawler, making this a must-see welterweight battle. "We like that fight," said UFC president Dana White during a media event last week. UFC 167 takes place Saturday, November 16 as part of the UFC's 20th anniversary celebration and is headlined by a welterweight title bout between longtime champion Georges St-Pierre and challenger Johny Hendricks.

Heavyweight superstars Alistair Overeem and Frank Mir will look to get back on track when they face each other in a pivotal bout on November 16th's UFC 167 card at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. A former Strikeforce, Dream, and K-1 World Grand Prix champion, Overeem owns wins over Brock Lesnar and Fabricio Werdum, but recent defeats to Antonio Silva and Travis Browne have him seeking redemption in Las vegas. Also trying to get back in the win column will be former two-time heavyweight champion Mir, a submission wizard coming off a defeat against Josh Barnett at UFC 164.

With Robert Drysdale unable to fight at UFC 167, Cody Donovan will now instead meet Gian Villante. As www.MMAjunkie.com first reported, the Nevada State Athletic Commission denied Drysdale a license to fight after an out-of-competition drug test revealed an elevated testosterone-to-epitestosterone (T/E) ratio, leaving Donovan without an opponent. UFC officials today announced the new matchup.
