Unified Combat League (UCL) Brings MMA to Kamloops, BC
Unified Combat League (UCL) Brings MMA to Kamloops, BC on February 22 with ‘UCL 20 Ascension’
Kamloops fight fans get ready, the wait is over! Unified Combat League (UCL), a popular Northwest based fight promotion, will be hosting the first MMA event to ever be held in Kamloops, BC. ‘UCL 20 Ascension’ will take place on February 22, 2014 at the Tournament Capitol Centre. The fight card is stacked with elite professional and amateur fighters from Canada and the U.S. WSOF lightweight Myles Merola and Season 9 Ultimate Fighter Alum Richie Whitson will headline the historic event.
According to UCL President, Jesse Eller, “We are very proud and excited to be the first fight promotion to host a premium MMA event in Kamloops, BC. Fight fans in Kamloops have been waiting for MMA to come to their city for a very long time. Words cannot express how excited we are to finally be able to make it happen!”
When UCL first approached Kamloops almost two years ago, the city had no interest in bringing the MMA “element” into their venues. It wasn’t clear why they were initially opposed to the idea, but UCL did not give up. They continued to pursue the opportunity and their persistence paid off. When the provincial athletic commission took over sanctioning in Kamloops, the city council took another vote and UCL was finally given the green light.
Eller went on to say, “Getting approval to host MMA events in Kamloops is a huge victory for us and for the fans! We put together a stellar card for this event. UCL 20 Ascension’ is stacked with local fan favorites and elite U.S. contenders. The fans will not be disappointed!
‘UCL 20 Ascension’ will feature three professional bouts and nine high level amateur bouts. The pro card is set up ‘battle of the border’ style, pitting BC fighters against American challengers. On the amateur portion of the card, local Kamloops fighters will take on opponents from Vernon, Penticton, Kelowna, Revelstoke, Calgary and Merritt! The full ‘UCL 20 Ascension’ line-up will be announced next week.
Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased at www.unifiedcombatleague.com or at any Ticket Web location. *General admission tickets are $40, premium floor seats are $70 and premium cage side seats are $100.
