Armed Suspect (Thiago Silva) Threatened People at Jiu Jitsu School

A suspect who had barricaded himself in his Oakland Park home was taken into custody late Thursday night, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said.

Authorities had set up a perimeter around the home at 2041 Coral Heights Blvd. after the suspect threatened people inside a Jiu Jitsu school earlier, the BSO said.

The armed suspect went to the school at 777 E. Oakland Park Blvd. and threatened the people there, but no one was injured, said the BSO, which was called about the situation at about 7:45 p.m.

He then went to his home and locked himself inside it, according to the BSO.

The SWAT team responded to the scene, and authorities were trying to establish contact with the suspect, the BSO said.

The agency confirmed at about 11:15 p.m. that the suspect had been taken into custody.

Thiago Silva just got himself in a load of trouble.

According to sources close to BJPENN.COM, we have learned that upon hearing of his wife’s possible infidelities with her Jiu Jitsu coach, Pablo Popovich, the top UFC light-heavyweight barged into their school gun-drawn, looking for Pablo.

He then left the scene to barricade himself inside his home while the Broward Sheriff department SWAT team placed a perimeter outside the home.

This all went down tonight, just a few hours ago.

Sad story. Thiago Silva is too talented to keep staying in trouble like this. Hopefully he can get this resolved, but its likely that he may be gone for awhile.

Agreed. He's an awesome fighter. One of my faves. But his personal problems just keep getting in the way. The UFC will cut him. Wasted talent. Horrible circumstances all around.

The UFC released the following updated statement regarding Thiago Silva this morning:

The Ultimate Fighting Championship has terminated the contract of Thiago Silva, effective immediately.

Silva had two counts of felony attempted murder reduced to aggravated assault with a firearm after Hurley ruled there was no probable cause on the attempted murder charges.
