The top two featherweights in the world meet again on August 2 in Los Angeles.
The rematch between UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo and number one contender Chad Mendes will headline UFC 176 at Los Angeles' STAPLES Center on August 2. Tickets for the event go on sale on June 13. In their first meeting in January of 2012, Aldo stopped the then-unbeaten Mendes with one second remaining in the first round. Since then, Mendes has won five straight, most recently decisioning Nik Lentz in December of 2013. Aldo, the only 145-pound champion in UFC history, has added three more successful title defenses since the Mendes bout, defeating Frankie Edgar, Chan Sung Jung, and Ricardo Lamas.

Larkin vs. Brunson and Trujillo vs. Green set for UFC 176 on August 2
The Summer of 2014 will get a lot hotter on Saturday, August 2, as two of the best matchups of the year will land on the UFC 176 card at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles. In the middleweight division, rising stars Lorenz Larkin and Derek Brunson will meet in a matchup of former Strikeforce standouts, and at 155 pounds, Abel "Killa" Trujillo squares off with Bobby "King' Green. Riverside's Larkin will get a southern California home game for the first time since February of 2011, as he looks to snap a two-fight skid against Brunson, who has won two of his last three since coming to the UFC.
On the lightweight side of the ledger, with Trujillo, Myles Jury and Francisco Trevino all dealing with injuries, the trio were forced out of the June 28 card in San Antonio, TX, scrapping the Trujillo vs. Jury bout, with Octagon newcomer Johnny Case stepping in for Trevino against Joe Ellenberger. Now Trujillo will return to action for the first time since his Fight of the Night knockout of Jamie Varner in February to put his three-fight unbeaten run on the line against Fontana's Green, whose seven-fight winning streak includes UFC wins over Pat Healy, James Krause, and Jacob Volkmann.

Re: UFC 176: Aldo vs Mendes II - Fight Card Updates
The UFC returns to Los Angeles on Saturday August 2 at STAPLES Center with a world title bout featuring the only 145-pound champion the Octagon® has ever known – Brazilian superstar Jose Aldo – as he defends his title against No. 1 contender Chad Mendes in the most highly anticipated rematch in featherweight history.
The rivalry amongst two of the best camps in mixed martial arts, Nova União and Team Alpha Male, will add another chapter as Mendes (16-1, fighting out of Sacramento, Calif.), riding a five-fight win streak – including three first-round knockouts, looks to avenge the only loss of his career against champion Aldo (24-1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil). Aldo is coming off a dominant five-round victory over Ricardo Lamas at UFC 169, and is seeking to further cement his legacy as one of the pound-for-pound best fighters in the world. The 27-year-old has never lost in WEC or UFC competition, amassing a perfect 14-0 record.
Other bouts for UFC 176 include:
* Fontana’s own Bobby Green (22-5), the 13th ranked lightweight in the world, vs. two-time “Fight Night” bonus award-winner Abel Trujillo (12-5, 1 NC).
* Riverside’s hard-hitting Lorenz Larkin (14-3, 1 NC) vs. three-time Division II All-American wrestler Derek Brunson (11-3) at middleweight.
* Former lightweight title challenger and No. 10 Gray Maynard (12-4-1, 1 NC) vs. Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt Fabricio Camoes (14-8-1).
* Undefeated tenth-ranked Bethe Correia (8-0) meets submission specialist Shayna Baszler (15-8) in the women’s bantamweight division.
* No. 6 Jussier Formiga (16-3) battles ninth-ranked Zach Makovsky (17-4) in a battle of top 10 flyweights.
* The Ultimate Fighter semifinalist James Vick (5-0) vs. UFC newcomer Walmir Lazaro (12-2) at lightweight.

Re: UFC 176: Aldo vs Mendes II - Fight Card Updates
Lightweight showdown set for Aug. 2 in Los Angeles.
Coming off an impressive second-round TKO win over Charlie Brenneman at UFC 172, UFC lightweight Danny "Last Call" Castillo will face another tough test in his next bout when he meets Tony "El Cucuy" Ferguson at UFC 176 in Los Angeles, which was announced Wednesday afternoon by UFC matchmaker Joe Silva. Ferguson, the winner of The Ultimate Fighter season 13, has won his last two fights and has won eight of his last nine, including an unbelievable finish of Katsunori Kikuno at UFC 173.
Team Alpha Male member Castillo has put together a 17-6 record, while Ferguson sits at 16-3. Both fighters are looking to break into the official UFC lightweight rankings and a win at 176 will go a long way to get them there. UFC 176 is headlined by a UFC featherweight title contest between Jose Aldo and Chad Mendes, who also fights out of Team Alpha Male.

Re: UFC 176: Aldo vs Mendes II - Fight Card Updates
Nearly six years after their first meeting in 2008, top middleweight contenders Gegard Mousasi and Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza will battle it out once more on August 2 in the UFC 176 co-main event at Los Angeles' STAPLES Center. In their first fight, Mousasi knocked out Souza in the first round. Since then, both have gone on to win Strikeforce titles and become UFC contenders. In their most recent bouts, Mousasi submitted Mark Munoz in the first round in May, and Souza decisioned Francis Carmont in February.
