Kerr, Rodriguez added to inaugural YPF event

Kerr, Rodriguez added to inaugural YPF event
By MMAFighting.com on April 1, 2008

Former UFC heavyweight champions Mark Kerr and Ricco Rodriguez will compete on the upcoming YAMMA Pit Fighting (YFP) card on April 11 in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Kerr will be filling in for Patrick Smith against Oleg Taktarov in a "Masters Superfight." The other superfight will go on with Gary Goodridge vs. Eric "Butterbean" Esch.

Rodriguez will enter the 8-man heavyweight tournament. The other seven heavyweights are Marcelo "Pato" Pereira, Sherman Pendergarst, Tony Sylvester, Chris Tuscherer, Travis Wiuff, Alexey Oleynick and George Bush. The single-night tournament bouts will have one five-minute round until the championship final, which will feature three five-minute rounds.

YPF will air live on pay-per-view via iNDEMAND, TVN, Bell Express Vu, Viewer's Choice Canada and the Dish Network.

Yamma Pit Fighting disclosed details Tuesday of the "Yamma" fighting surface to be used for the promotion's debut show April 11 in Atlantic City, N.J.

"The Yamma is a circular pit, shaped almost like a bowl, with a circular flat bottom that rises up around the edge," the promotion explained in a news release. "In this ring, if a fighter is pushed backwards towards the fence, he moves up the lip, gaining both a height and leverage advantage over his opponent. From this position, the fighter on the lip can use gravity and leverage to reverse his opponent and take the fight back into the center without a break in the action."

The last several weeks had brought much speculation regarding the surface.

"Some people thought it would have a moving floor, spikes or even live alligators," said Yamma Pit Fighting's Bob Meyrowitz. "But the Yamma isn't about flashy gimmicks; it's about the evolution of a sport and how the traditional ring can be altered to accelerate that evolution. At its core, the purpose of the Yamma is to make MMA fighting more exciting for those who matter most -- the fans."

 That would get me to watch!!

Gary Goodridge latest fighter to be pulled from YAMMA show
April 02, 2008 By: Sam Caplan Category: YAMMA Pit Fighting

A planned “Master’s Superfight” between Gary Goodridge and Eric “Butterbean” Esch scheduled for YAMMA Pit Fighting’s inaugural show on April 11 in Atlanta City, N.J. is the latest bout on the show to be altered.

Goodridge was knocked out in the second round against Mu Bae Choi in Seoul, South Korea on March 30. When speaking with the New Jersey Athletic Control Board, FiveOuncesOfPain.com (Five Ounces of Pain | Your Destination for Insider MMA News and Opinion) was informed that Goodridge will not be approved for the fight vs. Esch due to concerns over health and safety.

The NJACB also informed this site yesterday that in spite of YAMMA’s public announcement, a match between Oleg Taktarov and Mark Kerr that is being advertised by the promotion has not been approved. Kerr is still under suspension in the state of Connecticut and will not be approved until he’s been reinstated.

This card is a joke!!
What do you expect? The comedian is dead.

Even more non-sense coming in!!

"YAMMA Pit Fighting has announced that Pat Smith will replace Gary Goodridge in the YAMMA Pit Fighting “Masters Superfight” against Eric “Butterbean” Esch in Atlantic City on April 11, 2008. Goodridge was forced to withdraw from the event after losing a fight in South Korea on March 30, 2008 in what has been determined a knockout. This rendered Goodridge ineligible to fight on April 11 by the New Jersey Athletic Commission, which requires 30 days of inactivity following a KO.

Pat Smith was previously slated to fight Oleg Taktarov in the event.

Patrick Smith, an American mixed martial artist and professional kick boxer, gained notoriety in the early days of the UFC with his commanding wins in several memorable fights, including his defeat of Ninjitsu practitioner Scott Morris in UFC 2. The Denver, Colorado native stands 6 ft 2 in tall and weighs 230lbs., and has won five of his last six MMA fights.

The updated fight card for the April 11th event is as follows:

MASTERS SUPERFIGHTS (Two Five-Minute Rounds)

Oleg “The Russian Bear” Taktarov VS. Mark “The Titan” Kerr

Butterbean VS. Pat Smith

8 MAN HEAVYWEIGHT TOURNAMENT (One Five-Minute Round & Championship is Three Five-Minute Rounds)

Marcelo “Pato” Pereira
Sherman Pendergarst
Ricco "Suave" Rodriguez
Tony Sylvester
Chris Tuscherer
Travis “The Diesel” Wiuff
Alexey Oleynik
George Bush
