Cffc Show featuring Tank vs Kimbo cancelled

"After much speculation, the Cage Fury Fighting Championships (CFFC) event scheduled for Oct. 12 in Atlantic City, N.J. has been cancelled according to CFFC president Felix Martinez, who made the announcement on Friday via the promotion’s website.

The show was to feature a main event bout between Internet fighting legend Kimbo Slice and Ultimate Fighting Championship veteran David “Tank” Abbott in a heavyweight match-up at the Trump Taj Mahal.

“It is with deep regret that I have to announce the cancellation of Cage Fury’s Oct. 12 event,” stated Martinez. “I did everything in my power to make this show happen for the fighters and the fans. However, I could not overcome the loss of a major investor for this show who decided to pull out at the last moment. With the loss of this investor, I cannot proceed with another first-class event.

“It has always been my intention to provide the best combative sport entertainment that I could. I am very sorry for having to cancel this event and sincerely apologize to all the fighters, the fans, and our dedicated staff.”

The news comes just days after Martinez himself said the show was still happening despite the loss of a deal with iN DEMAND Networks to broadcast the show on pay-per-view. CFFC was hopeful of airing the event on the Internet instead.

The event was also set to feature the return of Renzo Gracie prodigy Ricardo Almeida, who retired from the sport after a unanimous decision victory over Ryo Chonan in May of 2004.

No word has come from the promotion’s representatives as to whether or not the show will be rescheduled for a later date.

CFFC are not the first promoters to have to cancel a major show just before it was about to take place. Both Global Fighting Championships and the Gracie Fighting Championship have cancelled events in the recent past. "
