THQ Gives Update on UFC 2009 and Possible Release Date


The highly anticipated UFC video game that has a current working title of “UFC 2009” finally has a general release date. The gaming giant THQ has set an initial launch date of Spring 2009 for at least the XBox 360 and Playstation 3 game consoles.

“UFC 2009” was originally announced back in July 2007, but there hadn’t been very many details since then. It was also mentioned that sometime during the UFC 84 Pay-Per-View broadcast that there would be some sort of announcement regarding the game, and we think that this was that announcement.

If you haven’t already seen the trailer for this UFC game, please make sure you check it out because it looks absolutely beautiful and we hope that the game play matches the graphics.

Here’s what Gamespot had to say about the upcoming UFC game:

That isn’t the only fight [WWE Legends of WrestleMania] for which THQ is spoiling, the publisher also addressed today the Ultimate Fighting Championship game, which has kept an exceptionally low profile since the 2007 E3 Media and Business Summit. That project will now see release in spring of 2009, and like Legends of Wrestlemania, its release will be tied to one of the UFC’s major events.

The long-awaited UFC video game will be featured heavily on an episode of GameTrailers TV that will air this Friday night at 1 am EST/PST on Spike TV. Host Geoff Keighly will be joined by UFC President Dana White, as well as two "prominent" fighters from the game. After a cut-scene trailer shown at the most recent E3 convention drove fans into a frenzy, the show Friday night will bring us the first official look at the new video game, as well as the first gameplay footage trailer of the game to be seen anywhere.

This game, the first in the UFC's multi-deal with developer THO, has been one of the most hotly anticipated releases among fight fans and non-fans alike and is tentatively set for a Spring 2009 release date. The show is timed perfectly as well as it will air the day before the UFC takes over Spike with their Ultimate Fighter Season Seven marathon, leading up to the Ultimate Fighter Finale show LIVE on Saturday night at 9 pm PST/ 6 pm PST.
