Arlovski

Affliction just announced today that Andre Arlovski and Ben Rothwell will fight each other at Affliction: Banned on July 19.

The “Banned” fight card will be the first show promoted by Affliction and has one of the best fight cards of the year. Both Rothwell and Arlovski are under contract with Adrenaline MMA but are fighting with permission on the Affliction card. Since the inaugural Adrenaline event is just a month earlier, both fighters will not be available for the Adrenaline show. The Adrenaline website does say both fighters are still scheduled to compete on the second Adrenaline fight card on September 6.

Here is the current fight card for the Affliction: Banned event:

* Fedor Emelianenko vs Tim Sylvia
* Josh Barnett vs Pedro Rizzo
* Ben Rothwell vs Andre Arlovski
* Aleksander Emelianenko vs Paul Buentello
* Matt Lindland vs Fabio Negao
* Renato Sobral vs Mike Whitehead
* Savant Young vs Mark Hominick
* Brett Cooper vs Mike Pyle
* Ray Lamaza vs Justin Levens
* JJ Ambrose vs Patrick Speight
What do you expect? The comedian is dead.

So is Dana just talking?

Buried at the bottom of Kevin Iole’s mailbag this week is a quote from Dana White in regards to Andrei Arlovski and the UFC’s intent to ink him to another deal:

“It’s funny you should ask me that. We were just talking about Arlovski. We want to sign him. It’s our intention to sign him. But I don’t know. We’re, well, I don’t know. We want to. Whether we will or not, I have no idea. We like Andrei and I know the fans like Andrei. I hope we can do something.”

For someone like White, who is usually as confident as they come, to sound so unsure about Arlovski’s situation could be a telltale sign that negotiations between Arlovski and the UFC are not going well. That’s just my opinion, but this isn’t your usual “We’re going to get all the talent in the world” statement from Dana White. He sounds very diffident regarding the whole situation.
