Bas Rutten Talks UFC 165 Main Event

Postby keithlewis » Tue Sep 24, 2013 8:04 am

OK, everybody is asking me about the Jones vs Gustafsson fight. Here we go:

"When you want to beat the champ you really have to take it from him", we all know this saying right?

Round 1,2 and 3 were for Alexander, all 10-9 rounds for Gustafsson

When round three started Jones knew he was behind and had to do something so he dug deep, really deep.

He connected with the big spinning elbow and then follow up which probably made it a 10-8 round for him

Round 5 was very close but Jones looked more fresh I think although Alexander was throwing a lot and still in the fight.

But that round was for Jones as well. So in my book a draw, but with the line I started with "If you want to beat the champ, you have to really take it from him", made it a win for Jones.

We saw this happen in more title Fights in different weigh classes.

That's what I think happened and yes there was a crazy score card from one of the judges.

The good thing is that it was very close. When everybody starts tweeting now we might see a rematch! Alexander is young and still getting much better every time we see him. When the elbow wouldn't have happened he would have won the fight.

In my personal book, but I know they don't count like this, the person who's the most dominant in the end rounds should get extra points for that since that's where fighters are tired and have to really dig deep.

Godspeed & Party on!
