The Story Of Two Recently Murdered Boxers

Roshii Wells, a former Olympian and bronze medal winner, and Ronny Vargas, a three-time NYC Golden Gloves Champion and rising professional prospect, were both recent victims of gun violence. I was moved to write about both given their talent and dedication to family. Ronny Vargas, a twenty year old who still lived at home with his parents in the Bronx, was pistol whipped and shot in the chest by a man after he flirted with his girlfriend, while Roshii Wells of Las Vegas was shot in the abdomen in front of his four year old son after a verbal confrontation with a man over a woman. Wells was thirty-one years old, a father of five, four of whom lived with him at the time of his murder.

Although not widely reported in mainstream media, these murders have devastated their respective communities and put in the spotlight senseless gun violence.
