"In fiscal 2009, we plan to publish Guitar Hero: On Tour for the NDS; Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, Guitar Hero: Metallica, and Guitar Hero IV across multiple platforms," the company said in its report. Activision's fiscal year ends on March 31, 2009, which means that the game will likely follow the holiday release of Guitar Hero: World Tour (nee Guitar Hero 4).
Guitar Hero: Metallica will be the first time a game based on the multiplatinum-selling band--which has become only slightly less famous for its antipiracy efforts as its musical achievements--has made it to retail. However, it is the second such game to be announced. In 2003, Vivendi Games--which will soon merge with Activision--struck a deal to create a vehicular combat game inspired by Metallica's music. Unconfirmed reports stated that the project had been quietly canceled in 2005.
In other news, Activision's SEC filing also confirmed that the next James Bond game, which will be developed by Treyarch using the Call of Duty 4 engine, will indeed be titled Quantum of Solace like the next James Bond film.

Guitar Hero: Metallica confirmed for May
Activision has told Eurogamer that Guitar Hero: Metallica will be rocking onto European shelves this May.
The publisher's comments come after a internal schedule was supposedly leaked to French website LiveWii, citing the same date.
The news is also hot on the heels of US retailer GameStop claiming Guitar Hero: Metallica will be out there on 29th March.
Metallica follow Aerosmith as the focus of a spin-off Guitar Hero game, and bring with them full drum/guitar/microphone GHWT support plus fancy sounds for the GHTunes recording studio.
In celebration of the bonkers ability of band co-founder Lars Ulrich, Guitar Hero: Metallica will also sport an Expert Plus drumming difficulty and freestyle drum fill mode. There's lots of Metallica trivia, photos, set lists and videos, too.
Guitar Hero: Metallica is in development for Xbox 360 and PS3!
The songs confirmed so far are as follows:
* Enter Sandman - Metallica
* For Whom The Bell Tolls - Metallica
* Fuel - Metallica
* Hit The Lights - Metallica

GUITAR HERO : METALLICA
In case you're just tuning in now, the all 'Tallica Guitar Hero will be hitting the streets in North America for Xbox 360 and Sony Playstation 3 on March 29, with our friends outside of North America seeing the game in early May. Nintendo Wii and PS2 versions will follow later in the Spring, also most likely in early May. Guitar Hero: Metallica has some really cool features like different classic venues such as the L.A. Forum, Tushino Airfield, and The Hammersmith Odeon, the ability to play as us or in single instrument mode, and even the Expert+ setting with double bass drum kick pedals. Here are the songs on the game . . . both from us and from some of the bands we admire and even call friends:
METALLICA TRACKS & OTHER ARTISTS
All Nightmare Long
Alice In Chains - No Excuses
Battery
Bob Seger - Turn the Page

If you downloaded the "Death Magnetic" album for Xbox and PS3, those ten songs will play in their entirety in the full game mode. PS2 and Wii versions will include "Broken, Beat & Scarred," "Cyanide" and "My Apocalypse" since they are not compatible with the Death Magnetic downloadable content.

Slayer's GH: Metallica Track Looks, Sounds Rather Difficult
Slayer's contribution to Guitar Hero: Metallica is War Ensemble off Seasons of the Abyss. Slayer fans can probably imagine the song is difficult. Non-Slayer fans will need some video proof.
This vid - courtesy of the Finns at Pelit - shows Neversoft staff rocking out with not only the hot double kick pedal action, but the hot Slayer guitar and vocal action as well.
