10 Questions With Howard Longus (by Darrick Patrick)

Howard Longus is a professional mixed martial artist who has competed in organizations such as World Fighting League and American Bushido. At the time of this interview, his next scheduled match is against Jim Tomczyk in Ring Of Combat at ROC 23 on February 20th, 2009.

Darrick: What was the road that led you to professional mixed martial arts competition?

Howard: It was maybe 1996 or 1997 the first time I saw the UFC while I was in high school. I said, "I'm gonna' do that shit, ASAP" - that's when the decesion was made.

Darrick: Who are a few of the people in the sport that you highly respect?

Howard: Wanderlei Silva because he always comes to fight and Chuck Liddell because anytime, anywhere, he's a fighter's fighter. Also, Randy Couture flourishes in the underdog spot most of the time.

Darrick: Your next scheduled match is against Jim Tomczyk on February 20th. What are your thoughts about this upcoming fight?

Howard: I don't know much about him except that he trains with a great team, but so do I. I have a very violent and aggressive game plan, so if he is prepared for what I'm bringing than it should be a hell of a fight and a whole lot of fun!

Darrick: Do you have any words of advice for other individuals looking to train in MMA?

Howard: Train with people that are better than you. Being "the man" in your gym is good for your ego, but really bad for your win/loss record.

Darrick: What brings you the most fulfillment out of martial arts?

Howard: That would be improving. This sport is so challenging, that just getting better is very fulfilling.

Darrick: Where could you possibly see the future of the sport ten years from now?

Howard: In ten years, MMA will be bigger than boxing ever was. I mean the UFC is already packing arenas all over the world and relatively speaking this sport is still in it's infancy.

Darrick: Outside of MMA, what are your other interests?

Howard: I love to cook - and it's actually how I pay the bills right now. Also, I enjoy spending time with my fiancee Kim and my friends.

Darrick: What is your oldest memory?

Howard: Getting into my first fight in kindergarten because some kid said, "Your mom." It was on after that. (Laughs)

Darrick: Tell us something about you that most people don't know.

Howard: I have a big fear of spiders. I hate them all. Anderson Silva's pretty cool though.

Darrick: What comic book character do you relate to most?

Howard: Probably Wolverine or the Punisher because events in my past helped shape the way I approach things now.
